Ryan wins season championship tilt at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (Aug. 28) – Friday was Season Championship Night at Davenport Speedway and with all track titles still on the line and the threat of rain, it made for an intense night of racing action. Matt Ryan capped off his season with a win in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature. After starting on the pole, Ryan led all 25 laps. He held off Justin Kay throughout the final 15 laps to clinch his third win of the season. Andy Nezworski finished a distant third, fol­lowed by Brunson Behning and Chuck Hanna. Tony Von Dresky used his front row starting spot to capture his third feature win of the season in the Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified division. A couple cautions brought the field back to Von Dresky’s rear bumper, but on each restart, he would sprint back out to the lead. Matt Werner took second, with Mitch Morris third. Three $1,000 to win Modified features at Gillette’s East-West Clash

GILLETTE, Wyo. – Gillette Thunder Speedway hosts a trio of $1,000 to win features for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds at its 16th annual East-West Clash special Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 4-6. All three events are 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifiers. Saturday and Sunday features both pay a minimum of $100 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western Region and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded each night. Entry fee is $75 each night. Pit passes are $25 on Friday and Saturday, $30 on Sunday or $75 for all three days. Early registration deadline now Sept. 3 for Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa – With more than 500 early entries already in hand, the early registration deadline for the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s has been bumped back to Thursday, Sept. 3. Drivers from more than 20 states, Canada and Australia have already pre-entered for the Sept. 7-12 Super Nationals at Boone Speedway. “We are still getting a lot of calls from drivers interested in competing at Super Nationals. They can call the home office (319 472-2201) to get pre-entered,” said IMCA President Brett Root. “Obviously, the sooner they get this done, the better.” “We would liked to have extended this deadline by one more day,” he added, “but we’ll be finalizing Late Model points early next week and trying to get a lot of things done before we go to Boone.”

Duffer Nationals Golf Tourney is Friday during Super Nationals 

BOONE, Iowa – Cedar Pointe Golf Course is site of the 26th annual Duffer Nationals Tournament, to be held Friday, Sept. 11. Tee time is 8:30 a.m. for the four-person best best shot tournament. Cost is $40 per person, which includes nine holes of golf, a golf cart and lunch. Entries will be taken right up until tee time. Each team must have at least one Super Nationals participant in order to compete. The winning foursome earns $200 with $100 paid to the second place team. Remaining proceeds are donated to a local charity. Bert 1300, 1400 transmissions approved for IMCA Modified use

VINTON, Iowa – Both the Bert Second Generation 1300 and Second Generation 1400 transmissions have been approved for use in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified division. Length of the 1300 is 19 inches; length of the 1400 is 22 inches. All aftermarket transmissions approved by IMCA must be used with a steel slip-yoke driveshaft. Ball spline drive shafts are not allowed in the Modified division.

First to register for Super Nationals, McCarthy now has sights on making the Saturday show

HUTTO, Texas – Now that he’s got one Super Nationals first under his belt, Mike McCarthy is hoping to accomplish bigger and better things at the 33rd annual version of America’s Racin’ Vacation. The Modified veteran from Hutto, Texas, was first to pre-register for the Sept. 7-12 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Like all of the 800-plus drivers making the trip to Boone Speedway next month, McCarthy has his sights set on making the Saturday night main event. “We always have a good time at Super Nationals. IMCA marketing partners fill Manufacturers’ Row

BOONE, Iowa – Nearly 40 vendors fill Manufacturers’ Row during the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. IMCA marketing partners will offer a wide range of high performance products for use during the week of Sept. 7-12. They’ll also display new products being introduced and legal for use in IMCA competition in 2016. Manufacturers’ Row will be located in the northeast corner of the speedway grounds and open from approximately 9 a.m.-5 p.m. each day and accessible through gates on the west and east. Sunday is final day of 2015 IMCA Late Model point season 

VINTON, Iowa – The 2015 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season for Late Models ends with Sunday, Aug. 30 events. The national champion and unofficial state and local track champions will be announced as soon as all race reports from the weekend of Aug. 28-30 are received and tabulated. All Late Model point standings become official at noon CST on Monday, Sept. 28. Questions about point totals and standings should be directed to Virginia Lindsey, IMCA’s director of membership and points, at vlindsey@imca.com or by calling 319 472-2201, ext. 215. The 2015 point season for all other sanctioned divisions ends on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Hovinga special postponed to Oct. 3

DENISON, Iowa (Aug. 28) – Rain has forced rescheduling of Crawford County Speedway’s inaugural Denny Hovinga special. The event shifts from tonight (Friday) to Saturday, Oct. 3. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds will run for $1,000 to win and a spot on the ballot for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars race for $600 to win, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for $500, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $400 and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $250. While the event has been rescheduled to a date after the point season ends, all IMCA rules and procedures will apply and be enforced. More information will be posted on Facebook.
