Lambert hammers down for $1,000 Soukup Memorial win

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. (July 5) – Josh Lambert scored the biggest win of his Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod career, outdueling defending track champ Chris Budzban in Sunday’s $1,000 to win Soukup Memorial at Thunderhill Raceway. Budzban drew a front row start for the 40-lapper, along with Kyle Raddant, and quickly established himself as the car to beat, distancing himself from Bernie Reinhardt and Jarred VanLaanen. Following a lap five restart, Budzban set a blistering pace as Lambert battled Reinhardt and VanLaanen for the runner-up spot. The race stayed green all the way to the competition caution on lap 20 with Budzban as the race leader. Budzban picked up where he left off when the race went green again but Lambert kept pace and began to chip away at the lead. A caution set up what became a nine-lap dash to the checkers. Budzban stayed true to running the low line and Lambert used this to his advantage, leaping by Budzban on the outside as the race resumed. Lambert left the competition in the [Read More]

Dripps, Murty, Swanson top thrilling three-wide finishes at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (July 5) – Fans were seeing triple Sunday night at Benton County Speedway as three divisions came down to three-wide finishes in exciting action on the quarter-mile. In the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, David Brown led throughout the 20-lap feature while Corey Dripps gave chase. Brown was dialed in on the preferred high groove while Dripps pestered him from the low side. Meanwhile, Zach Less was working through traffic and into contention following a lap five miscue that sent him to the tail of the field. Following a caution on the 18th circuit, Brown led the field back to green while Dripps and Less pressured from the low side. The three approached the checkers three-wide with Dripps inching ahead to steal his first win of the season. Brown was scored second ahead of Less. After being mired in traffic throughout the first half of the 16-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event, Damon Murty made his way into the top four just prior to the midway point. MINOT, N.D. (July 5) – Ryan Ruter was the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified winner on a record-setting opening night for the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour at Nodak Speedway. The $2,100 checkers flew for Ruter as a series record 93 Modifieds were checked in for the Sunday show. That eclipsed by one the mark set last year at Dacotah Speedway. Ten states and Canada were represented in the main event. Jordan Grabouski, Hunter Marriott, Ricky Thornton Jr. and Robert Hellebust completed the top five. “We drew well but this was a win we had to earn,” said Ruter, who started the 30-lapper from outside row one. “The track was good and we had a good race with Hunter for a majority of the night.” Cautions throughout the contest kept lapped traffic from becoming a factor. The last yellow set up a green, white, checkered finish. “Jordan came in and challenged a couple times but we were able to hold him off there at the end,” Ruter said. “Everything was good.” Grabouski and Thorton both [Read More]

Carrell captures Cottage Grove checkers

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 3) – Mark Carrell was the fastest in a 20-car field of Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds Friday at Cottage Grove Speedway. Monte Bischoff grabbed the early lead and ran in front until Collen Winebarger made his way around on lap nine. Winebarger seemed to be on rails and on his way to his first local victory of the season but Carrell had other plans in mind. Using the bottom of the oval, Carrell worked his way underneath Winebarger on lap 18 and started to distance himself from the pack. Winebarger started to reel Carrell back in but ran out of laps and ended in second. Curtis Towns, Kreg Britton and Jake Mayden completed the top five.
