Dowell dazzles in Texas Nationals IMCA Modified feature

By J.M. Hallas WACO, Texas (July 4) – J.P. Dowell scored the big $1,500 Texas IMCA Nationals payday, making a convincing run to the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified checkers. The new Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier won the pole dash, started from the front row and led every circuit in the 25-lap, caution-free main event. Dowell beat Kevin Green into turn one when the green flag waved. Justin Radcliff and former national champion Keith White both got by Green but by that time Dowell had already checked out on the field. Even lapped traffic didn’t deter Dowell as he continued his domination, dicing through slower cars. At the checkers Dowell had nearly a straightaway advantage over Radcliff and White. “I was a little worried about lapped traffic. I knew the car was good and I watched the track and the lines I was going to take. I picked them off real easy and got by them,” Dowell said. “When you’ve got a good car underneath you, it’s easy to do. I’m happy and it’s [Read More]

Round 2 of Red, White & Blue pays Long $1,210 in green

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (July 4) – Round two of 141 Speedway’s Gandrud Chevrolet Red, White and Blue Series paid $1,210 to Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified winner Josh Long. Long led every time around the track to add $210 on lap money to his $1,000 share of the purse. After starting outside row one, Long rode the top of the oval all the way around with Eric Scribner running second and trying to stay within striking distance. Shawn Kilgore made his way to third and used different lanes to move around Scribner. A caution with five laps remaining gave Scribner and Kilgore one last chance at Long but he controlled the final laps in securing the win and a spot on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Kilgore, who’d won the first RW&B event of the season on May 2, made his way around Scribner for second on the restart and finished in the runner-up spot. Todd Malmstrom, Scott Fitzpatrick and Ryan Dolan completed the top five. “It took a while to get through lapped traffic, but we got through OK,” said Nezworski, who loaded up and headed for home rather than stay for the post-race fireworks display. “It was a good night for us and we needed it to be. It was a long trip up here.” Nezworski had finished no worse than seventh through the first seven IMCA Late Model tour events of the season.
