Carload special Tuesday for Wild West Shootout at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – The fourth stop of the Wild West Modified Shootout will be at Cottage Grove Speedway on Tuesday, June 16. This event will feature some of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified best drivers in the Western United States and teams from all over the country will be in action. Twenty-five dollars will get a car, truck, or RV load full of fans into the races, which will get underway at approximately 6:45 p.m. Already this season, Jesse Williamson and Kinzer Cox have won twice in main event competition at Cottage Grove. Braedon Hand, Jason Kocks and Curtis Towns each have one win to their credit. CGS has hosted four Wild West Modified Shootout events with four different winners being produced. Last year, Alex Stanford and Nick Trenchard won while in 2012 it was Scott Lenz and in 2011 Jesse Williamson. The 2013 event was lost to weather.

Peery scores huge Wild West Shootout win at Siskiyou

By Ben Deatherage YREKA, Calif. (June 14) – A quick decision late in the race paid off for Travis Peery. Originally from nearby Fort Jones, the North Dakota transplant won Sunday’s Wild West Modified Shootout feature at Siskiyou Motor Speedway. Peery started outside pole but the $1,000 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory was sealed until he made a split second decision and chose the right lane that took him through lapped traffic with two circuits left. After taking the lead at the drop of the green, Peery set a rapid pace interrupted only by cautions on laps 15 and 18. The second yellow involved Colorado pilot Ryan Gaylord, running second at the time. He spun into the infield and the second spot was inherited by North Dakota chauffeur Troy Heupel. Heupel nearly caught Peery on a couple occasions but each time Peery was able to pull away. Prauner, Johnson repeat at Off Road Speedway

By Randy Pospishil NORFOLK, Neb. (June 13) – Kyle Prauner and Drew Johnson were repeat winners Saturday night at Off Road Speedway. Prauner, who started near the back, got the lead with seven laps remaining in the 18-lap Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature with Dylan Pospisil and Matt Haase taking second and third place, respectively. Johnson led every lap of the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature to finish ahead of Ramsey Meyer and Lance Mielke. Shawn Primrose won his first IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature with Chad Bruns second and Prauner third. The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks put on the ‘race-of-the-night’ for action as Jeremy Hoskinson battled Jeremy Knoell for several laps before Tiffany Bittner joined the fray, and took over the ‘fight for first’ with Hoskinson after the roll over loss of Knoell’s car from the race. Auringer tops Iowa Donor Network, Urbana 5 Night at Benton County Speedway

By Ryan Clark VINTON, Iowa (June 14) – J.D. Auringer continued his recent hot streak in a big way at Benton County Speedway. The Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified driver earned his third win in eight days and pocketed $1,250 Sunday night by topping a 32-car field on Iowa Donor Network/Urbana 5 Memorial Night. The win also placed Auringer on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Outside front row starter Ronn Lauritzen paced the field while Auringer positioned himself on the top groove of the quarter-mile. Auringer made his way into second following a lap four restart and chased Lauritzen until a caution slowed action a final time on the 20th of 25 laps. On the restart, Auringer worked beneath Lauritzen to steal the lead and pull away to victory. He also won the last two Saturday shows in Independence. Belec is best at Lincoln County

(June 13) – Eddie Belec, Chad Dolan, Casey Werkmeister, Jacob Olmstead and Blake Fletcher all claimed checkered flag finishes to punch their ticket to the winner’s circle at Lincoln County Raceway on Saturday evening. Getting off to a fast start and being in contention for the lead, Belec was finally able to drive off the cushion to snare the lead in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature on the ninth lap and never looked back to notch the victory. Jesse Taylor started in the fifth row and cruised to a second place finish. Scoring another win at Lincoln County was Dolan as he paced the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main event after starting in row five. First checkers for Moede fly at Oshkosh

(June 12) – Derek Moede took the lead on the 18th lap, then took his career first Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Car checkers during his first visit to Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway Friday night. Cody Scray owned the top spot the first 16 times around the track before Larry Karcz Jr. led for a single circuit before Moede drove by. Karcz ended in second while Tom Brumlic was a personal Oshkosh best-ever in third. Johnny Whitman was a first-time local winner in the Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified main, inches ahead of Jay Matthias. Brock Saunders surged ahead on the white flag lap and held on to pick up his first Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod career feature win at Oshkosh. Lucas Lamberies was second.

Johnson parlays Dacotah pole start into IMCA Modified feature win

MANDAN, N.D. (June 12) – Wayne Johnson led all 25 laps from the pole to win Friday night’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature over Jason Wolla at Dacotah Speedway. Johnson quickly distanced himself from the field as Herb Bargmann and Bradly Steffes battled for second. Wolla, who started 12th, made his way through the pack and passed Jerad Thelen for fourth. Wolla had the fastest car on the track at the time and ran down Bargmann and Steffes as they tussled over second. Wolla passed both on the same turn and started cutting into Johnson’s large lead. Thelen passed Steffes and Bargmann to take third. With 10 laps to go, Wolla caught Johnson and a caution with six laps to go kept him on his rear bumper. Johnson started to pull away from Wolla but back-to-back cautions set up a green, white, checkered finish. Wolla couldn’t shake Johnson, who held on for the victory.

Green takes Dodge City checkers

(June 13) – Scott Green battled into the lead on the third round and held off a closing Austin Allen in the closing stages of Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified 20-lapper for his first Dodge City Raceway Park win of the year Saturday night Green worked past Nick Link for the point and after a rash of cautions in the opening five circuits was able to slip away from the field as the battle waged behind him. With Randy Wilson holding second, Allen and Joe Cleveland traded the third spot numerous times before Allen finally took command of the position on the 15th lap. Allen disposed of Wilson one lap later and quickly began reeling in the leader. Allen closed to Green’s decklid with two laps to go but Green was flawless over the final pair of circuits to beat Allen to the stripe by a pair of car lengths. Owen earns first Cottage Grove Speedway checkers

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 13) – In the right place at the right time, Jimmy Owen was the winner of Saturday’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature at Cottage Grove Speedway. Gene Ashley seemed to have the car to beat but experienced mechanical problems that took him out of the race. Hometown chauffeur Owen inherited the lead and went on to win his first career CGS race in front of the full house.
