Salina Speedway preview: Racing to stay dry

By Dusty Wiegert SALINA, Kan. – Three weeks ago racing returned to the Salina Speedway for only the second time in 2015. Opening night was three weeks before that night, and in all seven out of eight scheduled events have been affected by rain. It only seems fitting that this week the show gets in, as the focus will be on fundraising for Chloe Nelson. Chloe has a germ cell cancer. She started chemo at Children’s Mercy in Kansas City on Jan. 23. The night’s 50/50 effort will go towards off setting medical costs for Chloe and her family, as well as any donations that will gladly be accepted. On the track five divisions will highlight the evening, with the Auto House Mod Lite division taking center stage with two features, the first being the make up feature from May 22 with a complete show after that. The 1st Class Chassis IMCA Modifieds will be back at it with defending champion Mike Petersilie at the top of the two event point standings. In one event [Read More]

Rose, Diaz win Merced Fair features

By Don Martin II MERCED, Calf. (June 10) – Karl Rose won the 20-lap Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event Wednesday at Merced Speedway. The race was part of the annual Merced County Fair and produced the first win of the season for Rose, who had to hold off Kyle Wilson down the stretch. Ricky Thatcher had the outside front row for the start and charged into the lead ahead of Rose and Bob Williamson. Kyle Wilson took third from Williamson on lap three. An infield excursion off the back stretch cost Thatcher the lead to Rose, and Wilson took second from Thatcher moments before the caution flew. Despite pressure from Wilson late, Rose kept his cool and collected his first win of the season. Thatcher was third. Rick Diaz grabbed the lead from Bruce Nelson on lap 14 and went on to win his third Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature of the season. Dakota Mod Tour

2015 Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Modified Tour payout powered up with new partnership from Industrial Electric and RACEFEEDX

Following up to the RACEFEEDX “New Blood, Long Tow” presented by IMCA.TV, officials from the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Modified Tour are pleased to announce added purse monies from Industrial Electric and RACEFEEDX for the 2015 monster modified tilt.

Industrial Electric joins the growing list of Dakota Classic Modified Tour sponsors in the same way so many businesses have joined the tour–as fans of racing! Owner Lynn Hecker of Dickinson, North Dakota, has sponsored several IMCA modified cars over the years and he loves to “see the very best drivers from all over the continent come to North Dakota to compete against some very tough competition right here at home.” He also understands some of the tracks on the tour, like his home track of Dickinson, do not have the grandstand capacity to fund the ever growing payouts the tour needs to attract the best drivers.

While in Arizona this past winter watching two of his sponsored drivers, Shawn Strand of Mandan and Jeff Taylor of Cave City, Arkansas, race, the idea was tossed [Read More]

Pettitt guesses right for Stock Car win at Off Road

By Randy Pospishil NORFOLK, Neb. (June 6) – Setting up a car to race on a dirt track is “a guessing game” according to Ron Pettitt, who won the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature at Off Road Speedway Saturday night. Pettitt took advantage of his front row starting position and basically sped away from the field to lead each and every lap for his first win at the new track, leaving the other drivers, primarily Kyle Prauner, Zach Zietner and Jason Wilkinson, to fight it out for second place. “We had an awesome night. We had a good car. The track played into our favor because it was a fast track,” Pettitt said. “We just had the right setup. It’s a guessing game, and we picked it perfectly. It was heavy, so when it’s heavy you can usually drive into the corner harder than you would a dry, slick track.” Ultimately, Zietner was able to hold on to second place, while Prauner was able to pass Wilkinson in turn three of the final lap to [Read More]

Prauner notes 100th Northern SportMod win with June 5 checkers at Boone Co. Raceway

NORFOLK, Neb. – The meticulous notes Kyle Prauner keeps about all his races will include a special footnote for his June 5th outing at Boone County Raceway. Prauner won for the 100th time in his Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod career Friday at Albion, becoming just the third driver in the 10-plus year history of the division to reach that mark. “Winning 100 times wasn’t something I set out to do when I started racing a SportMod. Success comes with hard work, dedication and passion by a lot of people,” Prauner said. “I never thought we’d get to 50 wins to be honest, but we’ve had good cars and a lot of good help.” Friday’s checkers were his fifth of the season. From Norfolk, Prauner was the national runner-up with 28 wins in 2012 and 27 in 2013. He was third nationally while winning a fifth straight Allstar Performance Nebraska State crown last season. “One hundred wins is a little more icing on the cake. It’s hard to compare to other accomplishments,” said Prauner, also a 12-time SportMod [Read More]

Kocks is first, final leader at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 6) – Jason Kocks was the first and final leader in Saturday’s Xtreme Motors Sports IMCA Modified main event at Cottage Grove Speedway. In the first four laps there were four different leaders. Kocks seemed to have the field covered but multiple cautions made it difficult to establish and maintain a sizable lead. Kocks lost the coveted position to Kinzer Cox on lap 19. Unfortunately, a few moments later the two got together at the start/finish line and Cox sustained too much damage to continue. Kocks led the rest of the way to score his first win of the 2015 campaign. Scott Lenz was the runner-up and Gus Cooper ended his evening in third.

Deery Bros Late Model Summer Series

Kay takes Deery win, series point lead at Jackson County

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 9) – Justin Kay’s third Deery Brothers Summer Series feature win of the season put him in a familiar place: Back on top of point standings for the IMCA Late Model tour. Kay passed Tyler Droste and pole starter Dan Shelliam for the lead midway through Tuesday’s 40-lap main event at Jackson County Speedway. Two late cautions kept lapped traffic from becoming an issue and Kay motored to the $3,000 victory, his tour career 12th. Shelliam gained second back from Droste following the final restart, with three laps left. The runner-up finish was his career best. Droste was third, Joe Zrostlik a career best in fourth and Jeff Aikey completed the top five. Andy Nezworski came into the night with the point lead, started 17th after running third in his “B” feature and finished sixth. Ryan Dolan started last in the field of 24 and ended in ninth.
