Salina Speedway offers special ticket opportunity to Bombers fans

By Dusty Wiegert SALINA, Kan. (March 29) – Today’s news spread fast that the Salina Bombers were closing their doors early this season and dissolving the team effective immediately. As a result of the final home game this season being canceled (May 30), the Salina Speedway will offer one free adult grandstand admission to any fan presenting a ticket to that game when arriving at the speedway ticket window on Friday, June 5. The night’s racing program will feature the BSB Manufacturing NeSmith Late Models, 1st Class Chassis IMCA Modifieds, Coors Light IMCA Stock Cars, Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods, Auto House Mod Lites, and Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stocks. Admission prices are $10 for adults, while kids 15 and under are always free. Seniors also get a discount of $5, while all military, both current and retired, also always get in free. Pit passes are $25. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 5:30 p.m. Cars hit the track for hot laps at 7:15 p.m. with racing to follow.

Opening night is Friday at Colorado Motorsports Park

BYERS, Colo. – Three sanctioned divisions see their first action of the season at Colorado Motorsports Park in Byers this Friday, June 5. Culminating a five-year rebuilding project, the lidlifter for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods sees racing start at 7 p.m. Pit gates open at 3 p.m., hot laps are at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and military, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Pit passes are $30 for adults, $20 for kids and free for four and under. Eight race dates are to be held on the 1/3-mile dirt oval this season. Modified points earned at Colorado Motor Sports Park figure toward Jet Racing Central Region standings. Stock Car points apply in the EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region.

Hinton gets birthday win at Stuart 

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (May 31) – Jerry Hinton blew out the birthday candles and extinguished his Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod opponents Sunday at Stuart Speedway. Hinton started seventh and took over the lead on lap eight, after Colton Nelson slid high in the first turn. Kody Havens was second and Clint Luellen recovered from a lap one spin to finish third. Casey Greubel was a first-time winner in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, getting the best of runner-up Marcus Fagan and Josh Daniels in third. Josh Gilman had the fastest ride in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature while 18th starting Luke Wanninger had the edge over Shane DeMey for second following a late restart. Austin Luellen scored another IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock victory. Jamie Schirm was second and John Watson took third. Dean Richards led from the fourth lap to the finish in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Logan Rich­ards was second and third was Jacob Peters.

Benson leads Nebraska invasion of I-90 

By Steve Zwemke HARTFORD, S.D. (May 30) – Seven of the season-high 12 Coffee Cup IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars at I-90 Speedway came from Nebraska Saturday in a “Cornhusker Invasion.” Papillion, Neb., driver Clint Benson led the last 18 laps of the 20 lap feature for his first-ever I-90 Speedway win. The defending national champion took the lead away from Lincoln, Neb.’s Jeff Edginton early on. However, Edgington worked his way back to challenge Benson on a perfect dryslick track. Edgington and Adam Gullion, also from Lincoln, crossed right behind Benson for second and third.  Benson started fifth.  Gullion was the race’s hard charger as he came from 11th to third.

IMCA Rebel Run specials slated June 5, 6 at Gallatin, Billings 

BILLINGS, Mont. – A pair of Rebel Run specials in Montana gives IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified drivers two chances to race their way onto the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. The Friday, June 5 opening night event at Gallatin Speedway pays $1,000 to win and a minimum of $75 to start. On Saturday, June 6, the top prize is $1,500 with a minimum of $100 paid to start at Billings Motorsports Park, making the weekend one of the top-paying combinations in Montana this season. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western Region, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded each night. Event sponsor DRW of Billings will give contingency awards. Pit gates open at 3:30 p.m. both days. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday and at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Serbus leads start to finish in Arlington Sprint feature 

ARLINGTON, Minn. (May 30) – Saturday’s 95.7 The Rock IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature at Arlington Raceway saw Trevor Serbus lead from start to finish. Kyle Sargent was right behind him to take second ahead of Brett Allen in third. Winner of the MN 93 IMCA Modified main was Clint Hatlestad, ahead of Tim Pessek and Chad Porter. Making his move to the front with five laps left, Dan Mackenthun topped the B & B Racing Chas­sis IMCA Stock Cars. Cory Probst paced the Eckblad Trucking IMCA Hobby Stocks. Matt Looft needed half the race before he could catch Chris Isaacson for the lead and the Un­hinged Pizza IMCA Northern SportMod victory. Nat Coopman was the Coors Light IMCA Sport Compact winner.

Jamestown hosts IMCA Modifieds this Saturday 

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Jamestown Speedway rolls out the red carpet this Saturday, June 6 for the first of five appearances this season by IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds on the ¼-mile high-banked clay oval. The feature pays $500 to win. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Belleville Motor­sports North Central Region and Allstar Performance State Points will be awarded. “We like bringing the IMCA Modifieds here because it gives our fans a chance to see popular drivers they know and remember but don’t get to see race often,” said promoter Tim Baldwin. Kossuth County hosts IMCA North Star Touring Series on Thursday

ALGONA, Iowa (June 1) – IMCA’s North Star Touring Series makes its first venture outside the State of Minnesota, when Kossuth County Speedway hosts the June 4 show. Touring IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts race at Algona on Thursday evening. All applicable points, including special series points, will be awarded. They’ll be joined by IMCA Late Models running for IMCA Speedway Motors National and Allstar Performance State points. Pit gates and the grandstand both open at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Pit passes are $25. Grandstand admission is $10. Alvarado has 2,000 reasons to celebrate after sweep at Diamond Mountain special

VERNAL, Utah (May 29-30) – The success Ricky Alvarado enjoyed at Diamond Mountain Speed­way over the course of his Wild West Tour career carried over to a pair of weekend Racing For A Reason Rumble victories. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified victories Friday and Saturday at Vernal were each worth $1,000 plus lap money. “I don’t know what it is about Diamond Mountain,” admitted Alvarado, a six-time winner when the Wild West Tour visited. “It’s a fun little track that fits my driving style.” Alvarado started outside pole in Friday’s 20-lapper and had the lead before sliding high and fall­ing back to fourth. He found the line at the top of the track, ran side-by-side with Justen Yeager for two circuits and then eked ahead on the last lap, winning by a car length.
