Jimmy Gustin repeats XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour heroics at Algona (VIDEO)

ALGONA, Iowa (July 1) – His IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified foes have to be happy the XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour doesn’t bring Jimmy Gustin to Algona Raceway more often. Gustin ended a late Tuesday night show by regaining the lead on the final circuit for his second straight series win on the Kossuth County Fairgrounds dirt oval. The victory came during Algona’s Sa­lute to Veterans Spectacular and paid $2,000. Post by XSAN. “I’ve only been to Algona twice and I won twice,” said the understandably happy Gustin, newly qualified for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. “It was a really exciting race. It all worked out great for us.” Forty-three IMCA Modifieds were on hand for the second stop of the 2014 tour. Rohleder cruises at Dawson County

(June 29) – Getting their chance to shine in the limelight after conquering the Dawson County Raceway oval to Sunday night were Kyle Rohleder, Jamey Kennicutt, Mike Nich­ols and Kyle Bond. Making his first visit of the season to Lexington, Rohleder rode the cushion to the lead on the eighth circuit and cruised to the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified victory. Kennicutt grabbed the lead on the fourth lap and never looked back in the Karl Chevrolet North­ern SportMod feature. Ageless wonder Denny Egge battled through traffic from his fifth row start­ing position to finish second. The high line also proved fastest for Nichols in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car headliner. He took over the front spot and held off the determined Casey Werkmeister. Breaking through for his second straight IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock win was Bond, who led the final 10 laps after starting in the fourth row.

Harvie wins caution-free contest at Electric City

By Vikki Higginbotham GREAT FALLS, Mont. (June 27) – Caution-free was the welcome motto for the IMCA Xtreme Mo­tor Sports Modifieds Friday at Electric City Speedway. Marty Harvie shot out front to take the early lead and there was no looking back for him in the green to checkers contest. Fans welcomed Harvie back to victory lane after a long dry spell for the driver. Mark Wermling was unable to catch Harvie and settled for second. The program had been delayed by rain for an hour and a half earlier in the evening.

Redline Racing Parts North Star Series is at Fairmont on the Fourth

FAIRMONT, Minn. – A holiday show is next for the Redline Racing Parts North Star Series this Friday, July 4 at Fairmont Raceway. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts are on the track for the fifth of 10 tour dates this season. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. on Independence Day at Fairmont. Racing follows 7 p.m. hot laps. Spectator admission is $12 for adults and free for students 18 and under. Pit passes are $25. More information about the Fairmont date is available by calling 507 382-4531 and on Facebook. Red, White and Blue Series resumes Saturday at 141

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – This Saturday, July 5th marks the second of three Gandrud Chevrolet Red, White and Blue Series IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified events at 141 Speedway. These $1,000 to win, minimum $120 to start, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifiers will wrap up Aug. 23 as part of the weekly racing series at Francis Creek. Tim Czarneski is the current series leader with Darin Duffy in second. Shawn Kilgore, Benji La­Crosse and Brad Lautenbach round out the top five in Red, White and Blue Series points. More than $10,000 in contingencies, courtesy of Gandrud Chevrolet, Arneson Shock Service, BSB Manufacturing, Fast Shafts and Manitowoc Motor and Machine will be distributed with the series champion receiving a GM 604 crate engine from Gandrud Chevrolet. Lynch, Brocksieck, Becerra take Quincy feature wins

By Jack Walbring QUINCY, Ill. (June 29) – Jim Lynch, Aaron Brocksieck and Austin Bercerra all took IMCA feature wins at Quincy Raceway on Sunday. Beau Taylor took over the lead of the Powder Coat Plus IMCA Stock Car main event on the fourth lap and powered to a comfortable lead as the field behind him battled for position. A caution flag brought the field to Taylor’s rear bumper on the 14th lap and that was all Lynch needed to make his bid for the lead. Lynch pulled close to Taylor on the final lap and made an incredible pass for the lead on the low side to take the win by a fender over Taylor who had to settle for second. Brocksieck kept his cool throughout the entire 18-lap Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMod main event. Raceway Park tunes up for mid-season championships

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (June 29) – With mid-season championships only days away, five drivers tuned up with trips to victory lane on Sunday at Raceway Park. Ramsey Meyer worked his way through the field in the early laps and went on to win the KISS 107.1 FM IMCA Sport Compact feature. Chasing Meyer to the flag was Cody Thompson, while Mark Holmes, Jr. rounded out the top three. The MOPAR IMCA Hobby Stock feature was dominated by Tony Fetterman, while Zach Ankrum and Lucas Phillips closed out good runs to fill out the top three. The battle between Todd Boulware and Karl Brewer for supremacy in the Skyline Casino IMCA Northern SportMod division continued with Boulware coming out on top this week, followed by Brewer and R.J. Murphy rallies to Quad City victory

By Anthony Sandoval EAST MOLINE, Ill. (June 29) – With adrenaline running high, Mike Murphy Jr. was able to pull off the Quad City race weekend sweep. He won Friday at Davenport Speedway and was able to rally from early trouble to win his fourth feature of the 2014 season at Quad City Speedway on Sunday night. Murphy’s No. 14 IMCA Late Model was turned around by the No. 3 of Mike Cothron on the sixth lap of the 30-lap feature. After sustaining some right-front damage to his machine, Murphy did continue. He worked his way through the field, eventually passing Ray Guss Jr. with six to go to score the victory in the Eriksen Chevrolet-Buick sponsored feature. “The guys told me that I could keep going if I wanted to,” said Murphy. “I told them, ‘I’m mad enough to where I think I can stay out here.’ We kept riding and charging and I saw where I was better than everybody. Delp, Hansen earn first EQ Wild West Tour wins

VERNAL, Utah (June 27-28) – Two veterans of the EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour made long-awaited stops in victory lane when the series for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds visited Diamond Mountain Speedway. Casey Delp won his first tour feature on Friday at Vernal. Chase Hansen accomplished the same feat on Saturday, also earning $1,000 and joining Delp as a new candidate on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Point leader Justen Yeager came into the series weekend with a three-race winning streak and ran second both nights. Michael Hale, Jake Donnelly and Eddie Belec completed Friday’s top five. Belec, Jeff Hunter and Bert Beech ended third, fourth and fifth, respectively, on Saturday. Delp counted three runner-up showings in 36 career Wild West Tour starts coming into the weekend. Montezuma County hosts July 5 Jim Henry Memorial

CORTEZ, Colo. – The Saturday, July 5 Jim Henry Memorial follows regular weekly racing on Independence Day at Montezuma County Fairgrounds Speedway. All applicable IMCA points will be awarded both days. On Saturday, IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds race for $750 to win with 15 or more entries. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars are guaranteed $500 to win, Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods $300 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks $150 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts $80 to win. Entry fees for Saturday’s pill draw/redraw show are $25 for the Modifieds, $20 for Stock Cars and $10 for Southern SportMods. Pit gates at Cortez open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. both days.
