Oliver, Anders, Becerra capture Quincy checkers

By Jack Walbring QUINCY, Ill. (May 4) – John Oliver Jr., Bobby Anders Jr. and Austen Becerra all picked up feature event wins in the Casey’s General Stores Racing Series at Quincy Raceways on Sunday. The Powder Coat Plus IMCA Stock Cars were racing for $500 to Win with Oliver taking home the big check. Oliver battled with Jim Lynch the entire 25 laps and held on to take the win over Lynch in second and Abe Huls in third. Anders held off a hard-charging Tony Dunker to score the feature event win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMod main event. Anders grabbed the lead from Tanner Klingele on the seventh lap and kept Dunker at bay over the last few laps to score the feature event win. Late pass puts Foulger back on podium at Antioch

ANTIOCH, Calif. (May 3) – Troy Foulger is the driver to beat at Antioch Speedway and Aaron Crowell almost did that in Saturday’s thrilling IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event. Crowell, who built a large lead in the 20-lapper, saw that advantage disappear in seconds when he encountered traffic with three laps to go. In a daring second-turn move, Foulger dove underneath Crowell and the driver he was about to lap. “All of a sudden, there he was,” Crowell said of Foulger after the race. “My car was awesome tonight. We made some changes that made the world of difference. Thompson tops nailbiter in Dawson County opener

(May 4) – Getting their 2014 season at Dawson County Raceway started off right with Sunday trips to the winner’s circle were Colton Osborn, Jamey Kennicutt, Mike Nichols and Dillon Thompson. In the closest finish of the night, Thompson was the victor by the slimmest of margins over Kyle Bond in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Thompson led the first 13 laps and then led the lap that matters the most by less than the width of a fender. Bond led the white flag lap and for many laps prior had turned circuits with Thompson in his crosshairs. Osborn led the final ten laps of the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature to cruise to the victory. Tubbs, Gottschalk repeat at Wakeeney Speedway

By Mike Hughes WaKEENEY, Kan. (May 4) – Daniel Gottschalk and Jeff Tubbs made repeat appearances in the Jason Oil Winner’s Circle at WaKeeney Speedway Sunday evening, May 4. Gottschalk only led one lap to win his second straight Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature but it was the one that counted. Brian Conness took the early lead, followed by C.J. Pfannenstiel and Dakota Sproul. The caution-plagued race kept the field close but each time Conness was up to the challenge.Gottschalk worked his way to second on the last caution on lap 13, then on the last lap, got under Conness in turn three and held on to the Crawford Supply flagstand for the win. Wray makes memorable Thunderhill debut

(May 3) – Cory Wray made his debut at Thunder Hill Speedway a memorable one Saturday night, as he used his front row outside starting position for all it was worth to win the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modified main event. Defending champion Tom Charles started middle of the field while Allen Halderman started deep in the field in the 10th row inside. A caution restacked the field, where Wray used that same line to his advantage and again commanded the lead. When the checkered flag flew it was Wray standing in the Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane with Justin Becker, Charles, Mat Stallbaumer and Halderman finishing out the top five. Twenty-five Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods took the green flag. Donnelly wins 1st, Yeager wins 15th in EQ Wild West Tour opening twinbill

DELTA, Utah (May 2-3) – A first-time winner and a regular visitor to victory lane prevailed when the EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour opened at Millard County Raceway. Jake Donnelly regained the lead from Justen Yeager and took the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified checkers for his career first tour triumph on Friday. Yeager, a three-time series champion, battled Casey Delp and Randy Artz en route to the front, then captured his 15th career WWMT win ahead of Michael Hale on Saturday. The victory in the first of three RW & B specials for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at 141 this season put Czarneski on the ballot for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. It also gave him an early leg up in the race to win a 604 crate engine from series sponsor Gandrud Chevrolet.
