Record car count for Sport Compacts at Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 3) – It’s the Sport Compact’s turn to shine Tuesday night at Boone Speedway and numbers for the 4-cylinder division add up to a new IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s record. Sixty-three Sport Compacts saw action in six heat races. Three ‘B’ features will the starting grid for his evening’s main event. That 25-lap race pays $250 to win plus a Speedway Motors Weekly Racing bonus of as much as another $250. Forty-nine Sport Compacts were in action when the class debuted at Super Nationals in 2011, 55 last year. Top two finishers in each of five heats qualified for the Karl Chevrolet Races of Champions for Hobby Stocks and for Northern SportMods this afternoon, then headed to the Fan Zone to draw cards to determine their starting spots in their Saturday events. Anderson checks out in second qualifier

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 2) – As he’s done before on IMCA’s biggest stage, Shannon Anderson proved he’s as good at running in traffic as he is at running away from it. Anderson checked out on the rest of the field in Monday’s second Hobby Stock qualifier at Boone Speedway after every restart, then used lapped traffic to his advantage to take the checkers comfortably ahead of Jacob Keiser. And as a result, Anderson will take the green flag from the middle of the front row in the main event Saturday at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Hauswirth tops final Hobby Stock qualifier

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 3) – Austin Hauswirth will take the green flag from the front of the outside row in Saturday’s main event for Hobby Stocks at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Hauswirth led the last 16 laps in winning Tuesday’s qualifying feature at Boone Speedway. He’d started sixth and made the move to the front past eventual runner-up Austin Luellen following a ninth lap restart. The rest of the top eight advancing to the big show are Jamie Songer, hard charger Malik Sampson, Benji Irvine, Tiffany Bittner, Darin Johnson and Devin Smith. Sampson raced into the top four from the 20th starting spot and joins Luellen, Irvine, Bittner and Johnson as first-time main event qualifiers. Hard chargers almost steal show in second SportMod qualifier

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 3) – The race was pretty good up front, but the guys coming from the back almost stole the show in Tuesday’s second qualifying feature for Northern SportMods at Boone Speedway. Brett Lowry found his way around Tim Rupp 14 laps into the 25-lapper and led to the checkers to earn the outside front row starting spot for the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s main event on Saturday. Rupp held off Danny Dvorak to finish third. Eric Flander advanced 14 positions to fourth, Joe Feyen was fifth after starting last in the field of 30 and Tony Pogeler was sixth. Fast finish puts Frye on front row

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 3) – Tyler Frye got the lead back just in time to get himself a spot on the front row for the start of Saturday’s Northern SportMod main event at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Frye led the first 11 laps of the first qualifying feature Tuesday at Boone Speedway, lost the front spot to Jerry Hoffman following a restart on the 12th circuit and then saw Doug Smith slip by for second. Frye rallied in the final laps, catching Smith and then Hoffman before the race ended a lap short of the scheduled 24 circuits when another car got hung up on the turn four berm. Smith also caught Hoffman before the final caution came out. Completing the top eight, who also advance to the middle row on Saturday, were Matt Hoeft, Clinton Luellen, Tracy Wassenberg. Ellithorpe repeats as champion in record-setting Sport Compact feature

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 3) – He was driving a new car but the results were the same. Jacob Ellithorpe repeated as Sport Compact champion at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. He took the $260 checkers more than a straightaway ahead of his closest pursuit Tuesday night at Boone Speedway. The 25-lapper ran caution-free. Chuck Fullenkamp and Brad Chandler each led a single circuit before the 11th starting Ellithorpe made his way to the front to stay. 2011 champion Nathan Chandler, Brad Chandler and Merv Chandler completed the top four. Two-time Hobby Stock runner-up to make bid for Super Nationals crown from the pole

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 2) – The runner-up in each of the last two Hobby Stock main events at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s will start his drive for the 2013 crown from the pole. Brandon Pruitt won the first of two qualifying features Monday night at Boone Speedway to secure the inside front row spot for Saturday’s big show. Pruitt started seventh and took the lead on the 14th of 25 laps. Six car lengths ahead by lap 18, he got faster and stretched that advantage in the closing laps. The race ran caution free, with Pruitt taking the checkers ahead of a multi-car entanglement in the final set of turns. David Rieks ran a distant second and Jason Kohl was third. Perfect start to 31st annual Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 2) – You couldn’t ask for a better day to start the 31st annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the low 70’s usher in the opening night program of America’s Racin’ Vacation at Boone Speedway. The Deery Brothers Summer Series for Late Models headlines a Monday card that also includes qualifying for both Hobby Stocks and Northern SportMods. Brian Harris is the point leader coming into the Labor Day Deery show. Tonight’s 50-lap main event will pay $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Sunday saw 105 Northern SportMods and 83 Hobby Stocks go through pre-tech. An open practice session followed, before a complimentary chili feed and a rockin’ performance by the band Helferstout. Kay captures national IMCA Late Model championship

VINTON, Iowa (Aug. 30) – Winning a track championship was the goal Justin Kay set for himself at the start of the 2013 season. He accomplished that and much more. Kay won a division-best 16 weekly features, as well as titles at Davenport Speedway and Jackson County Speedway on the way to his career first national IMCA Late Model crown. “The national championship was always on our mind but our main goal this year was to get a track championship,” said Kay, who celebrated his 25th birthday just four days after the season ended. “We knew if we could do that at Davenport we’d be doing good in national points.” Kay earns a $5,500 share of the $21,300 point fund that will be paid to top 20 finishers in the final divisional point standings, which become official on Sept. 23.
