$250 Sunoco bonus awaits IMCA Late Model winner at 34 Raceway

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa – The payday got even better for the winner of Saturday’s main event for IMCA Sunoco Late Models at 34 Raceway. The second $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus of the season will be paid to the May 30 Late Model winner at 34. Sunoco bonuses will be presented at Late Model sanctioned tracks this year. Drivers are eligible for one bonus during the 2020 racing season. Jeff Aikey was the winner at Independence Motor Speedway last Saturday night. IMCA will announce mid-week before the dates bonuses are to be awarded at each track. While the grandstand will be closed, fans will have the opportunity to watch the night’s racing action by logging on to IMCA.tv or affiliate DoneRight.tv. The live streaming service will carry a one-time charge and will not require a membership to watch from the comfort of your living room. Hot laps are scheduled to take to the track at 6:15 p.m. with racing to follow.

CJ Speedway hosts racing action this Friday

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa – CJ Speedway hosts a full program of racing this Friday night, with IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Mach-1 Sport Compacts on the May 29 card All cars entering the pit area will be allowed to be accompanied by 10 patrons. Warm-ups are scheduled to take to the track at 7 p.m. CJ will comply with Covid-19 guidelines set forth by the Iowa governor. This means the grandstand will not be open. On Friday, June 5, CJ Speedway will host a full night of racing with the grandstand being open for the dedicated CJ Speedway fans. IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars featured Friday at Heart O’ Texas

WACO, Texas – IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars join the Friday lineup, racing for $750 to win and $100 to start on opening night of Heart O’ Texas Speedway’s Quarantine Weekend. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Texas State points will be awarded to the winged warriors as well on May 29, as they join IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods for the draw/redraw show at Waco. Gates open at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 8 p.m. There is no entry fee and pit passes are $35. Spectator admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and military, $5 for students ages 6-12 and free for ages five and under. Drivers will be allowed up to six people in their pit area and social distancing guidelines will be followed on both sides of the track. Carolina RaceSaver Nationals postponed due to weather; replacement race scheduled

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (May 27) – Due to inclement weather and persistent negative forecasts, the much anticipated Carolina RaceSaver Nationals originally scheduled for this weekend (May 29-30) has been postponed to Oct. 23-24. A replacement single-day event has been scheduled at PPG Raceway in Fayetteville on June 6 paying $1,000 to the winner and $225 to start. “As they say, sometimes it rains,” said Sean Vardell of the Tribodyn Carolina Sprint Tour. “We were really looking forward to this event but are hoping to make it that much better in October when more folks are able to travel and join us for the inaugural Carolina Nationals. Memorial Clash checkers put Thies on All-Star ballot

JEFFERSON, S.D. (May 23) – Fans at Park Jefferson Speedway have been cheering for Jim Thies since he started racing some 27 years ago. They got to cheer for him again Saturday night, as Thies scored his first IMCA Modified feature win of the season. Dodge City sets June 14 practice to precede season opener

But before the season officially gets under way on June 20, the track has set an open practice for Sunday, June 14, from 5-9 p.m. The practice set for the 3/8-mile oval precedes the Saturday, June 20 season opener that features the $750-to-win IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock Roundup with the Precise Racing Products Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars in action as well. Phillips County Raceway primed for opening weekend, IMCA.TV broadcast

HOLYOKE, Colo. – A weekend twinbill starts the season for five IMCA divisions this Friday and Saturday, May 29 and 30 at Phillips County Raceway. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts run both nights at Holyoke for IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly racing National, regional, state and track, as well as Tri-State Tour and Colorado Alliance Tour points. Both race programs start at 7 p.m. and promoter Joe Bellm explained that a “10 and 10” rule would be in effect in both the grandstands and pit area while maintaining social distancing: Spectators must not sit in groups of more than 10 and no more than 10 people should be with each car in the pits. Lucky and good, Winebarger sweeps holiday weekend IMCA Modified features at Antioch

ANTIOCH, Calif. (May 23-24) – A driver who says he’d rather be lucky than good was both Sunday at Antioch Speedway. Collen Winebarger three-wheeled his way to the $2,200 IMCA Modified checkers, completing a sweep of the Covid 19 special/George Steitz Memorial despite a tie rod broken in an early-race dustup with an infield tire. “I was super embarrassed because I thought I’d given it away. I was lucky that was all that broke,” said Winebarger, from Oregon and making just his career second visit to the California speedplant. “I had no steering on the left side at all but was fortunate the yellows that came out late got lapped traffic out of the way.” He’d started from the pole and got too close to that tire about seven circuits in.
