Faulkner Rockets to Victory in Petaluma Modified Opener

By Ben Deatherage PETALUMA, Calif. (Apr. 12, 2025) — Rohnert Park’s Jeff Faulkner charged from fifth to first and never looked back, collecting his first Friesen Performance IMCA Modified win of the season in Shaw Race Cars Western Region action during Petaluma Speedway’s first race of the year for the division. The 25-lap main event at the 3/8-mile adobe clay oval on the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds opened with an exciting battle between Tim Yaeger and Jason Clayton. Clayton seized control on lap 2 and began pulling away from the field. By lap 5, Faulkner had climbed into third after an intense battle with reigning track champion Michael Paul Jr. A debris caution on lap eight erased Clayton’s advantage and tightened the field up. On the restart, Faulkner made a bold move around the outside of both Yaeger and Clayton to take over the lead. Faulkner withstood pressure from Yaeger with ten laps to go, then pulled away in the closing circuits to seal the win. Paul rallied late to grab second, while Yaeger held off Jeffrey Browne [Read More]

Matthew Triefenbach: Florida Flyer, Blue Collar Built

By Ben Deatherage CRESTVIEW, Fla. (Apr. 14, 2025) — For most racers, their story starts with a garage, a go-kart, and a weekend hobby. For Matthew Triefenbach, it started the same—but quickly got complicated by military orders, Arizona heat, and a first sergeant who didn’t care much for trailers in the dorm parking lot. These days, Triefenbach is stationed at Eglin Air Force Base and calls the Florida panhandle home. But in Alabama on April 5, 2025, he made a major breakthrough. At Deep South Speedway in Loxley, he scored his first career Friesen Performance IMCA Modified win—a flag-to-flag run that ended with his hand in the air and a little redemption in his heart. “It was good to come back to Deep South for our local area points racing and start the year off strong there,” he said. “I feel like we had unfinished business from The Clash.” A Strong Start, a Tough Week Just weeks before, Triefenbach had rolled out for the IMCA.TV Clash on the Coast—a growing showcase for the DeVilbiss Racing Eastern [Read More]

Shute Shines in Stuart Modified Season Opener

By Ben Deatherage STUART, Iowa (Apr. 13, 2025) — The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds headlined the 64th season opener at Stuart Speedway, and Norwalk’s Todd Shute powered to victory in the 20-lap feature. California transplant Trevor Fitz jumped out to the early lead and held back two-time defending national champion Chaz Baca Jr. of Arizona during the opening laps. A lap seven restart brought new challengers, as Shute and Tanner Black joined the fray. Shute, the 2007 Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s winner and three-time defending Stuart track titlist, made a decisive move on lap 11 to edge out Fitz at the line. A couple of mid-race cautions couldn’t slow him down, and Shute dominated the closing circuits to collect his second Razor Chassis North Central Region win of the season. Fitz held on to finish second, while 2019 Arizona State champion Kelsie Black, wife of Tanner, completed the podium in third. By Don Hawkins HARLAN, Iowa (Apr. 12, 2025) — The Sunoco IMCA Late Models were on tap at Shelby County Speedway’s Igloo 25 with a $1,000-to-win main event, and it was 20-year-old Jarrett Getzschman who made headlines at the drop of the checkered flag. Hogge Holds Off Manning for Merced Modified Victory

By Ben Deatherage MERCED, Calif. (Apr. 12, 2025) — Bobby Hogge wasted no time taking command when the 25-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature got up to speed Saturday night at Merced Speedway. The 2020 California Speedweek titleholder from Salinas, wheeled the Paul Guglielmoni-owned entry into the lead early, then maintained his edge through traffic and restarts. A caution on lap seven temporarily slowed the field, but once green flag racing resumed, Hogge stayed committed to the low line while the two-defending track champion Jim Pettit II and two-time Bakersfield Speedway titlist Gavyn Manning battled for second. Manning eventually cleared Pettit and began to close in on Hogge, testing the high groove to mount a challenge. With three laps to go, both drivers worked through heavy traffic, but Hogge made the right moves at the right time and held off Manning for the win. It marked Hogge’s second victory of the season in the Shaw Race Cars Western Region and his first triumph at Merced in 2025. Manning settled for a close runner-up finish, while Josh [Read More]

Breakthrough Win for Moss in Wild Stock Car Main at HOT

By Ben Deatherage ELM MOTT, Texas (Apr. 11, 2025) – Waxahachie’s Dylan Moss raced to his first career Sunoco IMCA Stock Car victory Friday night at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in EQ Cylinder Heads Southern Region competition at the 1/4-mile oval. Five-time Heart O’ Texas titleholder Jason Batt jumped to the lead at the start of the 20-lap main event and appeared poised to pick up another win. Moss kept Batt within striking distance, stalking the leader for several laps while defending HOT champion Paul White fended off challenges from 2022 track titlist Dustin Mooney and three-time EQ Cylinder Heads Southern Region kingpin Westin Abbey. Batt encountered heavy traffic with six laps remaining, and on lap 15, was collected by a lapped car, bringing out a caution and ending his tenure at the front. That handed the lead to Moss, who capitalized on the opportunity with a flawless restart. White claimed second, and Mooney secured third after a hard-fought battle with Abbey. Gavyn Manning: Flipped It, Fixed It, Finished First

By Ben Deatherage BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Apr. 4, 2025) — On March 22nd this year, Bakersfield native Gavyn Manning embarked on what would become one of the most unforgettable nights of his young career. Competing at the Bill and Shirley Meyer Memorial at Mohave Valley Raceway in Bullhead City, Arizona, Manning flipped his car during hot laps—a chaotic beginning to what would soon become a rare and remarkable comeback story. “I was going to try and go to the top of the board in hot laps, but I didn’t realize how greasy the track was,” Manning explained. “I hit some grease going into turn three and blew off the top and rolled and ended on top of the tractor tires. More than anything, it was sheet metal damage, but it really bent the J-bar. We beat out the roof, the sail panels, and the deck and had to scramble and find a new J-bar, and made it just in time for the heat race.” What followed was the kind of story race fans live for.
