New ride carries Ursetta to two Colby wins, IMCA Modified Madness checkers pay $3K

COLBY, Kan. (June 1) – Dominic Ursetta didn’t need a lot of laps to shake any bugs out of his new ride.  Ursetta debuted a new 2019 GRT by Phillips in winning Friday’s IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program at Thomas County Speedway.  He followed up with the $3,000 Nutrien IMCA Modified Madness checkers at Colby on Saturday, beating Eddie Belec to the finish line by two-plus seconds. “It took us a little while to find our line Saturday,” said Ursetta, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. “Once we got into the lead we were able to pull away a little.” Tanner Black and Cody Gearhardt had started at the front of the Modified Madness field. Black powered to a sizable advantage in the early stages of the 25-lapper while Daniel Gottschalk worked to chase him down after moving to second from his seventh starting spot in just two laps. Belec worked his way into the top three while Ursetta hustled into fourth after falling to seventh in the first couple circuits, before [Read More]

Franzen beats Schrader, rest of Modifieds at Maquoketa

By Rob Hinckley  MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 1) – He watched the monkey jump off his back. Jarrett Franzen actually pushed that chimp in dominating form, leading all 20 laps of the QCJeeps.com IMCA Modified feature Saturday evening at Maquoketa Speedway.  “I got lucky on the start,” Franzen said. “(Polesitter) Tyler Madigan pushed on the start and I started second row inside and it was pretty much a bottom race track.” The win ended a string of “almosts” in the Fryer Motorsports No. 60F.  “Seems like we’ve led until lap 16 and the car burns off,” he said. “ We’ve finally been changing some stuff, dropping some bars we usually don’t do and it ended up working.” Franzen and team celebrated on Stead Family Children’s Hospital Night and beat all the stars, including Ken Schrader, who wound up fifth. Timmy Current started 11th and picked his way to the runner up spot, followed by Bryce Garnhart and Tyler Madigan.  Schrader was complimentary of his first visit to Maquoketa.  “Nice and smooth, nice little track. Wyatt Block, Rothe and Konnor Wilinski were left to sort things out for second at the line with Block grabbing the spot followed by Roth and Konnor Wilinski in the top four. Not to be outdone, Dan Michonski got by polesitter Asa Doxtator on lap one of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature and proceeded to disappear from the pack on his way to a green to checkers win.  A late caution changed everything in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature as Vince Engebregtsen had a great restart and charged to the lead, capturing the win [Read More]

Martens is final Sprint leader at US 36

By Jacob Blair  OSBORN, Mo. (May 31) – Jake Martens was the third and final leader in the Friday’s IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature at US 36 Raceway. Jack Potter took control early and looked to have the fastest car on the track. Late in the race, however, Potter entered a little high in turn three and slid over the berm, bringing out the caution.  Kenny Potter inherited the lead and held it for a few laps before Martens made the pass. Martens got the win and made a trip to Westfall GMC Victory Lane. Potter finished second with Matt Richards third.  Chad Clancy dominated the IMCA Modified feature while Steve Starmer picked up his first IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win of 2019 at US 36 Raceway.  Two weeks ago, Steven Clancy used patience to pick up the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature win.
