Kemper, Madden, Wyett score big CJ wins

by Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 17, 2024) – Mother Nature provided a perfect evening for dirt track racing at CJ Speedway Friday evening. The night started off with the conclusion of the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main event that was suspended one week earlier by rains that fell with five laps scored. The main event picked up on lap six with Luke Phillips leading the pack to the green on the restart. Phillips went on to lead the final seven laps for the win while a whole lot of racing went on for the runner-up spot. At the checkers it was a family affair as Shane Richardson took second ahead of John Richardson with Jason Shutterle crossing under the checkers in fourth. Following the conclusion of that feature, racing continued as CJ Speedway hosted a full program of racing on Extreme Rentals Night at the races. Shryock doubles down at Hancock County

By Chad Meyer BRITT, Iowa (May 17, 2024) – Kelly Shryock drove his way to the front twice Friday night during the School’s Out for Summer event, sponsored by Trulson Auto Parts & Service at Hancock County Speedway. In the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, Shryock started sixth and ran down early leader Todd Stinehart, who stayed close through the midpoint of the race until Shryock was able to pull away over the late stages. Jeremy Mills got around Stinehart at the end to finish second. In the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Shryock wheeled the topside of the speedway from the 10th starting spot to capture the win. It wasn’t easy, though, as early leader Heath Tulp would not go away and raced to Shryock’s inside several times late but couldn’t return to the lead. Garrigan, Nielsen are best at Black Hills

By Ben Deatherage RAPID CITY, S.D. (May 17, 2024) – Black Hills Speedway fired things up with incredible racing Friday night, with IMCA feature wins going to John Garrigan Jr. and Brent Nielsen. When the main event for IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks kicked off, Brett Konst was a force to be reckoned with, shooting ahead of the pack and leaving Garrigan and Alan McNeil to battle it out for the runner-up position. As the caution-free race continued, it seemed like Konst was on a direct path to victory. But Garrigan launched a daring charge, closing the gap between himself and the leader. The final lap was a nail-biting duel, with Garrigan snatching the win from Konst by a mere three one hundreths of a second. Konst was second while McNeil was scored in third. VINTON, Iowa (May 17, 2024) – It’s a three-night event 45 years in the making and it plays out at three of the tracks where IMCA has been part of weekly racing programs for decades. Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds are the spotlight division in $2,000 to win 45th Anniversary events Friday, May 24 at Marshalltown Speedway and Saturday, May 25 at Boone Speedway, then chase a top check on $4,500 and $400 to start in the Sunday, May 26 show at Benton County Speedway. Everything right for Wagner’s first IMCA win

JEFFERSON, S.D. (May 16, 2024) – The right track, the right car and the right driving style all combined to put Dan Wagner in Park Jefferson Speedway’s victory lane Thursday night. Wagner topped the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature for his career-first feature win in any class, holding off Matt Bonine in the final circuits. “It was very satisfying because of all the hard work we’ve put in,” said Wagner, who raced in 2001 and in 2007 before taking off 15 years to follow his five kids’ multitude of activities. “We have an old-style driving style in a modern era and that’s a little like oil and water.” Wagner ran a Harris car in his 2022 and 2023 Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod campaigns. CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (May 17, 2024) – South Texas Race Ranch salutes those who have and those who are now defending the freedoms we hold near and dear on Saturday, May 25. IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars chase a top prize of $1,200 at the long-running Salute to the Troops special during the upcoming Memorial Weekend. A minimum of $320 will be paid to start that event and IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Texas State points will be awarded. Draw fee is $30. Super Nationals history maker Kevin Pittman passes away at 65

WATERLOO, Iowa (May 17, 2024) – An IMCA driver best known for making history at the biggest event in dirt track racing has passed away at the age of 65. Kevin Pittman died at his home in Waterloo on May 9. Pittman was the first driver to win championship events in different divisions at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s, earning the Modified crown in 1989 and the Late Model title in 1991. “The two are hard to compare,” he said in a 2007 interview with IMCA. “We kind of lucked into winning the Modified feature. We only led the last half straightaway but it was all we needed to lead.
