Pounds, Hogge pace Pettit Memorial features

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (Oct. 3-4) – Brad Pounds was in the right place at the right time to win Friday’s Pat Pettit Memorial Shootout feature for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Ocean Speedway. A morning spent in the shop put Bobby Hogge IV in Watsonville’s victory lane on Saturday. Pounds earned $2,003 and a berth on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot for his opening night triumph; Hogge, already vote eligible, went home from night two with a $3,003 paycheck. After starting outside Albert Gill on the front row, Pounds fell back in the field and had to work his way back up to second behind Kellen Chadwick. Just before midway in the 30-lapper, Chadwick pulled off under caution, Pounds inherited the lead and checked out on most of the pack. Fulton checkers give Fleming his second win of the 2014 Friesen Empire State Series

FULTON, N.Y. (Oct. 3) – Chris Fleming became the first repeat winner in the 2014 Friesen Chevrolet Empire State Series, leading all 25 laps of the Friday night main event at Fulton Speedway. The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified tour victory paid $400. Fleming started outside row one in the Outlaw 200 Weekend feature. A long green flag run at the start got Fleming into lapped traffic before a series of cautions. The last restart came with three laps to go. “The track was really fast,” said Fleming. “I just tried to keep my momentum up and was able to pull away some after the final restart.” Keith Lamphere, tour point leader James Cornell, Gary Smith and Gary Roberts rounded out the top five. IMCA announces 2014 national, regional champions and rookies of the year

VINTON, Iowa (Oct. 6) – A who’s who of IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly racing will take their turns at the podium to tell about their 2014 championship campaigns during the national awards banquet next month. Zane DeVilbiss of Farmington, N.M., raced to his second national IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified title. He adds a bookend trophy to the hardware he won in 2010. Winners of career fifth national crowns were Mike Nichols of Harlan in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Shannon Anderson of Des Moines in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Matt Looft of Swea City defended his Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod title. Sparked by an IMCA single division record 54 feature wins, Nate Coopman of Mankato, Minn., ruled again in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts. His first championship in that division came in 2011. Flatlander IMCA Modified checkers fly for Gemmill, Heim

GOODLAND, Kan. (Sept. 26-27) – Long runs at the front ended with Brendon Gemmill and Chris Heim $1,500 richer for their IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified efforts at Sherman County Speedway’s Flatlander special. Gemmill was scored first on all but the first circuit on Friday night at Goodland despite a souring power plant. Heim, a weekly regular at Goodland, was even more dominating with a flag-to-flag run on Saturday. Their victories put both drivers on the ballot for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. A single caution slowed the opening night Modified main seven laps in. Gemmill’s motor started missing and it took a couple circuits for him to get his momentum back. “I thought something was goofy. Reutzel reigns again at Jackson Nationals

JACKSON, Minn. (Sept. 27) – Something about the Jackson Nationals brings out the best in Tad Reutzel. Reutzel led every time around the track in Saturday’s 20-lap IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event at Jackson Speedway in a program that doubled as the final night for the Redline Racing Parts North Star Series. The Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying checkers paid $1,500. Jason Andrews and Justin Luinenburg earned the same amount for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock victories, respectively. FULTON, N.Y. – Round six of the Friesen Chevrolet Empire State Series takes the tour for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds to Fulton Speedway for a Friday, Oct. 3 event. The $400 to win, minimum $75 to start feature is part of the opening night program for Fulton’s Outlaw 200 Weekend. Droste proves up to Challenge at Hamilton County

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (Sept. 27) – It’s been a pretty good September for Tyler Droste. Droste raced all the way from 11th to catch Ryan Ruter on the final circuit and win Saturday’s Fall Challenge feature for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Hamilton County Speedway. The $1,000 victory put him on the ballot for next year’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “We have a new Jet Mod that I’m really still getting used to driving,” Droste said. “I think we’re getting better and better in this car. BEATRICE, Neb. (Sept. 26-27) – Two IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified drivers more than a little familiar with victory lane at Beatrice Speedway found their way there again during September Fest. Jordan Grabouski was the Friday night winner and Johnny Saathoff led the way to the Saturday checkers. Each Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying win was good for $1,500. Grabouski had won both the Spring Nationals main event and his career 100th IMCA feature at Beatrice earlier this season; Saathoff’s numerous accolades at that venue now include his career eighth victory in the traditional season-ending special. After starting fourth on opening night, Grabouski passed Cory Wray for the lead on the third of 25 laps. KENNEDALE, Texas – Kennedale Speedway Park’s eighth annual Showdown special is Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3-4, with four IMCA divisions on the card. Topless IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, topless Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods, IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars all run for $1,500 to win. The Modified feature is a qualifier for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot Pit gates open at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2 for registration and a 6-10 p.m. practice session. SALINA, Kan. (Sept. 29) – IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds race for as much as $7,500 to win at Salina Speedway’s Mid-America Clash on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3-4. First place will pay $3,500 if there are 39 or fewer entries, $5,000 if there are between 40 and 74 entries, and $7,500 if there are 75 or more Modifieds entered in the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. Using the same guidelines, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods race for $1,000, $2,000 or $3,500 to win. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks race for $500, $1,000 or $2,000 to win.
