Cesar conquers 141 Stock Car opener

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (May 4) – Brian Cesar liked the idea of starting up front in the season-opening IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature at 141 Speedway. He liked even better that every lap led was $30. Cesar decided to take charge of the show and led every lap en route to the 20 lap win. Cesar had to take every challenge that former champion Brett Wenzel threw at him. Wenzel used various lines to try and get around Cesar but could never get enough momentum. Cesar took home $910 for the win which included lap leader money. Wenzel settled for second.  Benji LaCrosse already has his new car figured out early, dominating a stacked field of 38 IMCA Modifieds. The win netted him a $990 pay day, which included lap leader money and extra money from Ricky Lemmens.  A late caution set up a green, white, checkered finish in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature, won by Ryan Lemieux.  Shaun Bangart won the 15-lap Mach-1 Sport Compact feature. One hundred and fifty-three cars battled in the lidlifter [Read More]

LaCrosse returns to IMCA Stock Car roots and reigns at rescheduled King of the Creek

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (Aug. 2) – Benji LaCrosse couldn’t remember the last year he raced an IMCA Sunoco Stock Car but his memory was pretty good when it came time to drive to victory lane at 141 Speedway. Piloting Travis Van Straten’s backup ride, LaCrosse led the last eight laps in winning the rescheduled King of the Creek special at Francis Creek, outrunning a field filled with heavy hitters for the $1,000 top prize. “I was pretty pumped. It was fun,” said LaCrosse, who collected 28 career wins in the division before going onto more than his fair share of IMCA Modified success. “I’d raced a Stock Car one night in 2007 and 2008 and didn’t do very good. There’s a big difference when you jump in a car that’s already working well.” “It’s kind of like getting on a pedal bike you haven’t been on for a year,” he continued. “You get to the first turn and it all comes back.” LaCrosse started shaking off the cobwebs by drawing a front row start and [Read More]

Kilgore tops IMCA Modified thriller at 141

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (July 28) – Shawn Kilgore, Kelsy Hayes and Greg Gretz put on a thriller of a show during the final laps of the IMCA Modified feature Saturday at 141 Speedway before Kilgore picked up the win.   Gretz and Hayes dueled early, swapped the lead multiple times until Gretz gained control down low. Hayes was not be deterred and brought her ‘A’ game up top, tracking down Gretz and pulling even on lap 13. The 12th starting Kilgore worked his way through the field to join the top duo and the final five laps saw numerous three-wide battles. Hayes used the top to grab just enough of a lead for Kilgore to clear Gretz. Kilgore pulled a slide job to perfection on Hayes and grabbed the lead with Hayes pulling a slide job of her own back on Kilgore. Gretz stayed with them as the trio went three-wide at the white flag. Kilgore proved to be just tough enough on the final lap to secure the win over Gretz and Hayes. Russ Reinwald finished [Read More]

Thornton dominates $10,000 to win IMCA Clash at the Creek

By Mike Spieker FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 21) – Ricky Thornton Jr. dominated Thursday’s IMCA Modified Clash at the Creek at 141 Speedway to earn the $10,000 payday. Already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Thornton led all 50 trips around the smooth and slick 1/3-mile dirt oval. The Clash did double duty as an Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour event, the first such held outside Iowa. Eighty-two Modifieds were entered and seven states were represented in the main event. Thornton grabbed the lead from the pole on the opening lap as Mike Mullen filed into second. A gaggle of cars, including Hunter Marriott, Joel Rust, Kyle Stickler and Benji LaCrosse, raced for the final positions inside the top five. Thornton immediately checked out from the field, establishing a one second lead over Mullen in the first five laps. Like Thornton, the rest of the drivers inside the top five ran the low side of the speedway until Strickler countered that trend. Strickler went to the top side and quickly began picking off cars, [Read More]
