Sports Park Raceway postponed, Benton County Speedway to host Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights opener

FORT DODGE, Iowa (May 21) – Rain has been declared the winner of tonight’s Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour event at Sports Park Raceway. The Fort Dodge speedplant was to host opening night for the 10th annual tour for IMCA Modifieds Tuesday evening. IMCA and track officials hope to reschedule that race for later this summer. The tour now gets underway on Memorial Day with a $1,500 to win, minimum $150 to start show at Benton County Speedway in Vinton. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods complete the Monday, May 27 program, to be broadcast by IMCA.TV. The traditional home track of the IMCA Modified division, Benton County has hosted eight Dirt Knights Tour events since 2011, each of which resulted in a different winner. Brown is late-race hero at Hogan Memorial

VINTON, Iowa (July 3) – Kyle Brown had one win and a bunch of fourth-place finishes going into Tuesday’s Hogan Memorial. He had the most prestigious win of his IMCA Modified career when it was time to load up the trailer following the 24th annual special at Benton County Speedway. Brown pounced when leader Troy Cordes got out of line with seven circuits to go in the 50-lapper, charging to the front and outrunning defending race winner Hunter Marriott to the checkers. Forty Modified drivers from across three states were entered and Cordes, two-time Hogan winner Richie Gustin and Chris Simpson completed the top five in a main event that played out in front of a packed grandstand. Hurst gets best of Benton County Deery Series foes

VINTON, Iowa (June 28) – It wasn’t that long ago Jeremiah Hurst wasn’t sure about his future in racing. On Thursday, he was in victory lane telling all about his Deery Brothers Summer Series win at Benton County Speedway. “This is awesome. It’s my first win since my heart attack (last July). It seems like we have a lot of seconds,” said Hurst, most recently runner-up in back-to-back IMCA Late Model tour events last month at Quad City Speedway and Boone Speedway. “It feels really good to be able to win tonight.” Boone had been the site of Hurst’s last Deery win, during the 2002 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Potential IMCA Modified payoff tops $5,000 at Hogan Memorial

VINTON, Iowa – The winner of one of the longest-running special events for IMCA Modifieds could earn more than $5,000 for their pre-holiday efforts. Benton County Speedway in Vinton hosts the 24th annual Hogan Memorial on Tuesday, July 3. The Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying main event pays a minimum of $2,333 to win. Fifty dollars will be paid to the leader of each of the feature’s 50 laps with an increased bonus of $450 plus a new Hoosier G-60 tire going to the leader when the race is stopped at halfway. The feature is also a Harris Dash at the Clash qualifier. In addition, the Hogan pays $983 for second, $808 for third, $683 for fourth and $558 for fifth. Minimum start money is $283. Deery Brothers Summer Series gets top billing at Benton County Fair show

VINTON, Iowa (June 22) – The Deery Brothers Summer Series makes a much anticipated return to Benton County Speedway next Thursday night. Touring IMCA Late Models race for $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start the June 28 main event, which headlines the county fair show in Vinton. Pit gates and the grandstand open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. The series has made just two previous visits to BCS, which can stake a claim to fame as the site of Darrel DeFrance’s first series win. Gustin, Olson race to IMCA wins on Iowa Donor Network Urbana 5 Night

VINTON, Iowa (June 10) – Richie Gustin and Tony Olson took home the top checks from Benton County Speedway’s Iowa Donor Network Urbana 5 Memorial Sunday night. Already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Gustin started third in the IMCA Modified 20-lapper and took the lead from Brennen Chipp with just a few circuits scored. Gustin pulled away before the seventh starting Troy Cordes found the fastest line and began making up ground. Cordes closed on Gustin and nearly drew even until a late caution. Gustin then pulled away for the $1,000 victory while Dripps worked past Cordes for second. Also the winner of 2015 and 2016 IDN/Urbana 5 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod features, Olson started third row and raced the low side to the front early on. VINTON, Iowa – IMCA Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods both race for $1,000 to win at Benton County Speedway’s Sunday, June 10 Iowa Donor Network and Urbana 5 Memorial Night. The Modified feature is a qualifying event for the 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars race for $400 to win and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $300. Thornton catches Cordes for opening night Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights checkers

VINTON, Iowa (May 28) – A rare visit to Benton County Speedway resulted in a frequent result for Ricky Thornton Jr. Thornton passed race-long leader Troy Cordes following a late restart and led the last four laps in winning Monday’s Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour feature for IMCA Modifieds. The checkers in the tour lidlifter were good for $2,000. “I had a really good run on the restart and was thinking I’d either win or finish last,” Thornton said of the roll-the-dice pass on the high side of the oval. “I had pretty good car and made a couple strong runs but might have to have settled for second without that restart.” Cordes led the first 26 circuits from his outside pole start. Duffy prevails in Benton County IMCA Modified Prelude

VINTON, Iowa (May 27) – Darin Duffy didn’t remember any of the details of his last IMCA Modified feature win at Benton County Speedway. He left the pit area with 2,000 reasons to remember his Sunday night Albert Auto Night Prelude victory. Duffy led the last 11 circuits, outrunning Richie Gustin following restarts on lap 22 and then after a final caution that forced a green, white, checkered finish. He earned $2,000 along with a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth for his efforts. “I could see Richie on the restarts but I was comfortable with the line I was running.
