Roberts is Super on Saturday at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (June 27) – Boone Speedway held its first Super Saturday of the 2020 season Saturday night.  Nick Roberts took home the $1,000 prize in the IMCA Modified division as well as securing a berth on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.  The Modifieds ran a 30-lap main event and Roberts led all of them to take the checkers in convincing fashion.  He finished comfortably ahead of Tim Ward.  Ethan Braaksma ran at the front of the pack all race long and finished third. Extra money was also on the line for the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and it was Johnathon Logue taking home that $750 prize. Donavon Smith won his second local IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature of the season and his nephew Mike Smith took the checkers in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Jerovetz, Knutson go back-to-back at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (June 20) – Troy Jerovetz and Eric Knutson repeated trips to victory lane Saturday at Boone Speedway. Jeff Mueller got the early race lead in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car 20-lap main event. He was quickly tailed by Jerovetz and then the race was on between the two.  Mueller held on to that top spot until the final lap when Jerovetz was able to take the low road, grab the lead, and hang on to the flying checkers. Mueller held on to keep the runner-up spot.  Then came three Smith brothers, David in third from starting 16th, Devin in fourth from 11th and Donavon from 15th to round out the top five. From 18th, Knutson captures Hobby checkers at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (June 13) – Eric Knutson earned hard charger and feature win honors after starting 18th in the Saturday IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature at Boone Speedway. Knutson got past Bryant Johnson in the closing laps to capture the win.  Following second place Johnson was Daniel Smith in third, Curt Reed took fourth, and Jeremiah Andrews was fifth. Ricky Thornton Jr. followed his king of the hill triumph with the IMCA Modified checkers after starting 12th while Doug Smith repeated his winning ways in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main. Troy Jerovetz took command at lap four of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car 20-lap feature and dominated to the checkers.  Race cars were not the first to hit the track at Boone Speedway on Saturday. It was the Boone High School Class of 2020 that got to parade down the frontstretch and take the checkered flag first.

Brown impresses at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (June 6) – Kyle Brown was impressive in taking the IMCA Modified victory Satur­day at Boone Speedway.  Gatlin Leytham and Jimmy Gustin led the field to green but by corner one, sixth starter Brown was already in front.  From there on, Brown showed total domination in securing his first win of the 2020 season.   Joel Rust chased Brown across the finish line in second place, Tim Ward came from ninth start­ing to finish third. Donavon Smith was the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner and Doug Smith paced the Karl Kus­toms Northern SportMods. Miciah Hidlebaugh took the checkers in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main. Fans were allowed back in the grandstands at Boone for the first time this season. More than one driver expressed in victory lane just how much the fans being there meant to them.Racing continues next week with early start times.  Pits open at 3:30 p.m., grandstands at 4 p.m., hot laps 5 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

Nelson repeats in Hobby Stocks, Sauerman, Schmidt, Sachau also post Boone wins

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 30) – Boone Speedway saw another big car count for its Saturday night rac­ing program with 199 race cars checked into the pits and Dylan Nelson repeated his win from last week in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division.   The Hobby Stocks ended the night’s racing with their 15-lap feature event.  Braden Richards led the troops in the early going of the race but Nelson was quickly up to challenge him by lap three.  By lap five, Nelson had taken over the top spot and was successful in warding off Richards the rest of the way to the checkers.  Richards held the second spot, Eric Knutson came from 11th starting to take third place, fourth was Solomon Bennett, and Shane Butler completed the top five.  Cory Sauerman took home the victory in the IMCA Modified contest and it was 12th starting Jay Schmidt making a last-lap pass for the win in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division. Minnesota driver takes IMCA Modified checkers on big night at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 23) – A huge field of 234 cars checked into Boone Speedway on Saturday night and Minnesota racer Aaron Johnson swept to the win in the final circuit of the IMCA Modi­fied feature.  It appeared that hometown driver Russell Dickerson was going to top them all as he immediately powered to the lead from his fourth place starting spot. Dickerson continued to lead as the 20-lapprt wound down but Brainerd, Minn., driver Johnson, who had started ninth on the grid, had reeled him in and was challenging.  Dickerson held the upper hand at lap 19 but was unable to hold off his nemesis that final lap with Johnson making the pass and snatching the win.  Dickerson had to settle for second. Kyle Brown moved up from 11th starting to third. Devin Smith topped the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars while brother Doug took the checkers in a field of 69 entries in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Hofbauer nabs first IMCA Stock Car win on opening night at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 16) – The fans were missing at the Boone Speedway on Saturday for the opening night of the 2020 racing season, but the drivers got down to business. Due to the regula­tions by the state of Iowa during the Covid-19 pandemic, no spectators were allowed in the grand­stands, but drivers were eager to begin their racing season and get back to some sense of normalcy during this unprecedented time. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars were up for a 20-lap feature event. Tony Hofbauer and Jeff Larson started on the front row and entered into a battle at the drop of the green. Larson jumped to the lead and then the two swapped the top spot for several laps until Hofbauer was able to establish it for good on lap 11.  From then on, he pulled away and took the checkers, securing his first-ever IMCA Stock Car vic­tory.  Hofbauer, who did double duty on the night, also racing in the Modified class, finished comforta­bly ahead of second place Todd Reitzler.  Ricky Thornton [Read More]

Opening night set this Saturday at Boone Speedway

BOONE, Iowa – Iowa’s Action Track opens this Saturday with four IMCA divisions on the race night card. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms North­ern SportMods chase IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly racing National, regional and state, but no track points when the green flag flies at Boone Speedway on May 16. Working with IMCA and following CDC social distancing guidelines permitted by the State of Iowa, Boone Speedway will be able to race with only pit-side attendees. Each participating race car will be allowed a total of 10 members, come and join your favorite driver in the pits. Fans will also be able to watch the race live via pay-per-view on the all-new IMCA.TV.   Registration for the draw/redraw is required and can be done through the MyRacePass link on the track raceboone.com website.  Updates on specific guidelines and procedures will be posted on social media and the website.  Pit gates open at 1 p.m., hot laps are at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Boone Speedway sets Friday practice session

BOONE, Iowa – An open practice session runs from 6-8 p.m. this Friday, May 15 at Boone Speed­way. Pit passes will be $15, masks must be worn, hand sanitizer stations will be located around the speedway grounds and race teams must maintain social distancing.  Opening night for IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods is Saturday, May 16. Season championship wins to Rust, Smith, Logue, Watson

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 24) – The 2019 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season came to a close Saturday at Boone Speedway with season championship night.  Jake McBirnie held a thirty-two point lead over Cory Pestotnik going into the final go around of the season in the Elmquist IMCA Northern SportMod 23-lap feature.  McBirnie shot to the lead as the race went green and continued to hold it through three early cautions.  When the yellow flew on lap 10, Johnathon Logue had moved from sixth starting to third and on the restart made the move into second and began to hound leader McBirnie. His persistence paid off a handful of laps later when he made the pass at the flagstand to take over the top spot. He would then keep it the rest of the way to the checkers and the win.  Cory Pestotnik came home in second place and McBirnie finished third. McBirnie is the 2019 track champion.
