Dahl rules Governor’s Cup standings at Dacotah Speedway

MANDAN, N.D. (July 27-28) – Casey Arneson and Jeff Taylor were $800 feature winners while Mark Dahl’s consistency made him the overall IMCA Modified champion at Dacotah Speedway’s Governor’s Cup special. Arneson captured the Friday night victory ahead of Travis Hagen and Dahl. Taylor pulled away in collecting the Saturday win, with Jeremy Keller, Dylan Goplen and Dahl next across the stripe. Arneson caught Marcus Tomlinson for the lead early in the opening night show, then pulled away as Tomlinson started to fall into the clutches of Dahl and Hagen. Dahl passed Tomlinson, bringing Hagen with him. Hagen grabbed the second position with 10 laps to go and began reeling in Arneson as the leader dealt with lapped traffic. Arneson ultimately used that traffic to his advantage, however, holding off Hagen for his first feature victory at Mandan. Thornton cashes in at Dacotah Legendary

By Mike Spieker MANDAN, N.D. (July 13) – For the third consecutive year, the Legendary 50 at Dacotah Speedway brought the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic IMCA Modified Tour week to a close. And for the second time in those three years, the driver taking home the big check – this time $10,003 – following the 33-car, 50-lap main event was Ricky Thornton Jr. Thornton backed up his inaugural Legendary 50 win Friday night, leading the final 35 trips around the high-banked, 3/8-mile clay oval. “I knew I was starting around some pretty fast cars. I felt confident with my car and was ready to get the race started,” said Thornton, who took the initial green from the eighth spot. “We were good running the bottom the night before and that was where I wanted to run again.” Eddie Belec, Jason Wolla and Shawn Strand made up the front row of the three-wide start as the field of 11 rows charged to the green flag. Emotions flow at Mandan as Wolla scores Modified finale, Lund lands Stock Car prize

By Mike Spieker MANDAN, N.D. (July 12) – The defending national champion let his emotions show when the 29th annual Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour came to a close Thursday at Dacotah Speedway. Jason Wolla claimed a hard-fought Modified win after 30 laps, as Hunter Marriott successfully concluded his bid for a third straight title with a second-place finish. “Hell yeah! We won!” Wolla exclaimed from victory lane. “To every single one of the fans up in the stands, it means a hell of a lot for me to be able to win this race on our home track. Dacotah Speedway hosts $10,003 to win Legendary special for IMCA Modifieds

MANDAN, N.D. – Dacotah Speedway is excited to announce the $10,003 to win IMCA Modified Legendary 50 presented by Corral Sales scheduled for Friday, July 13. Many of the best drivers from across the United States and Canada will compete for the largest cash prize for an IMCA Modified race in North Dakota. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Side Biter Chassis and North Dakota State points, but no track points will be awarded. Entry fee is now $150. The main event is a 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier and will feature the 32 drivers who raced their way into the big show, plus one additional spot to be determined by presenting sponsor Corral Sales. Some time between lap 25 and 35, a caution will wave for mandatory pit stops. This allows drivers and pit crews five minutes to make any changes they need with the exception of changing tires. Wolla, Zenz are IMCA winners at Dacotah

MANDAN, N.D. (June 22) – A mid-race caution erased his big advantage but The Big Show couldn’t be caught Friday at Dacotah Speedway. Defending national champion Jason Wolla was the IMCA Modified feature winner at Mandan while Jeremy Keller finished a season-best second. Tom Berry Jr.’s last-lap pass of Shawn Strand to net third. Craig Kastner made his second visit to victory lane at Mandan this season following the Mach-1 Sport Compact main event. Runner-up was Christopher Zenz.

Up to Challenge, Berry wins Ironman at Dacotah

MANDAN, N.D. (June 8) – Tom Berry Jr.’s first win in three career IMCA Modified visits to Mandan was good for $800 at Dacotah Speedway’s 40/40 Ironman Challenge Friday night. Pole sitter Darrell Parsons, Travis Ulmer and Tim Perkins went three-wide into the first set of turns. Ulmer shuffled into the lead as John Corell passed Parsons for third. An early caution allowed Berry to slip by Corell and Parsons before another yellow regrouped the field. On the restart, Ulmer, Perkins and Berry went three wide for the lead. Contact among the leaders bumped Perkins out of the top five as Berry grabbed the front spot. As the laps wound down, Ulmer lost positions to Corell, Shawn Strand and Jeremy Keller. While Berry pulled away, Strand started to close in on Corell. Strand had the fastest car on track, passed Corell and was closing in on Berry, who was maneuvering around slower cars. Reed rules at Dacotah Speedway

MANDAN, N.D. (May 25) – Andy Reed became a first-time Mach-1 Sport Compact feature winner in a Friday night barnburner at Dacotah Speedway. An early caution regrouped the grid and pole sitter Seth Howe-Kellar led the field to green. The father-son duo of Stan and Alex Thompson raced side-by-side for the fourth position as they took the green flag. Stan Thompson slid up in front of his son to claim the fourth position as Ken Sandberg had his hands full with Reed for second. While racing door-to-door for second, they started to reel in leader Howe-Kellar. With four laps to go, it was a three-car battle for the win. Reed cleared Sandberg for second and peaked his nose under the machine of Howe-Kellar. They battled for the win with two laps to go. Coming out of turn four and racing to the checkered flag, Reed held off Howe-Kellar to win his first Sport Compact feature. Sandberg finished third while Stan Thompson crossed the finish line fourth.
