Dodge City Raceway Park returns to racing this Saturday

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – At long last, the roar of high horsepower racecars will again fill the air at Dodge City Raceway Park as the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas fires back into action for the first time in 2020 this Saturday night. After being put on hold for several weeks due to COVID-19 restrictions, the track is now back in action and expecting a large crowd for Saturday night’s opener that gets under way at 7:30 p.m. Saturday’s tilt is headlined by the Hobby Stock Roundup that offers up a $750 winner’s share in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock ranks with $75 to start the feature. The event also includes the opening round of championship chase action for the Hambelton Racing DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.  Admission to Saturday’s Hobby Stock Roundup is $12 for adults with children ages 11 and under free when accompanied by an adult.  Detailed schedule information is available at https://www.dodgecityraceway.com/schedule/.

Dodge City Raceway Park practice this Sunday

By Lonnie Wheatley  DODGE CITY, Kan. – With the opening weekend of racing action at Dodge City Raceway Park little more than one week away, the track will host an open practice this Sunday, June 14. Sunday’s practice session will get under way at 5 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m.  Practice sessions will take place upon both the 3/8-mile clay oval and the 1/7-mile Little DCRP clay oval.  Pit gates open at 3 p.m. with general admission gates open at 3 p.m.   Pit admission is $20 per person with admission to the grandstands free. Sunday’s practice precedes a season that kicks off Saturday, June 20, with the Hobby Stock Roundup, featuring a $750-to-win and $75-to-start feature event for IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.  It will also be the opening round of championship chase action for the Dodge City Raceway Park Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.  The opening round of action for Micros and Go Karts atop the Little DCRP clay oval follows at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 21.  Detailed schedule information [Read More]

Dodge City sets June 14 practice to precede season opener

By Lonnie Wheatley  DODGE CITY, Kan. – At long last, the 2020 season opener atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval in southwest Kansas is within reach.  But before the season officially gets under way on June 20, the track has set an open practice for Sunday, June 14, from 5-9 p.m.  The practice set for the 3/8-mile oval precedes the Saturday, June 20 season opener that features the $750-to-win IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock Roundup with the Precise Racing Products Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars in action as well. URSS vs. DCRP Sprint Car Showdown reset for July 2

(May 22) – Originally slated to kick off the 2020 racing season at Dodge City Raceway Park, the URSS vs. Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car Showdown has been reset for Thursday night, July 2. The event has been postponed on a pair of occasions due to ongoing restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, with the track now set to officially get things under way on Saturday, June 20, with Armed Forces Night featuring the Hobby Stock Roundup.  The July 2 date for the URSS vs. DCRP Sprint Car Showdown will feature a complete card of championship chase action that will also include the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Dodge City Raceway Park shifts practice to May 23

By Lonnie Wheatley  DODGE CITY, Kan. – In the ever-changing environment of the current COVID-19 coronavirus culture, Dodge City Raceway Park has shifted its open practice to a tentative date of Saturday, May 23, rather than the previously scheduled date of May 16. Following the tentative practice session set for May 23, pending further developments, Dodge City Raceway Park will now kick off the season with a URSS vs. DCRP Sprint Car showdown along with a full slate of championship chase action including IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks on Saturday, June 6. In an additional schedule adjustment, the seventh annual SportMod Mayhem North vs. South Duel will now take place in conjunction with the Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP Sprint Car Nationals on Aug. 20-22.  The Thursday portion of the event will serve as a practice night for the IMCA Modifieds with heats and qualifiers on Friday and then the $1,500-to-win main event on Saturday. Blurton collects career third Soderberg checkers

(Sept. 14) – Zach Blurton notched his third career Jerry Soderberg Memorial win in the seventh annual 25-lap Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car vs. United Rebel Sprint Series event Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park.  Blurton gunned into the lead from the pole position and led throughout to finish off his URSS champion­ship campaign. Blurton kept Luke Cranston at bay all the way. Behind the lead duo, several drivers held down the show position along the way including Ty Wil­liams in the early going and then Taylor Velasquez briefly before Jake Martens took command of the position at the midway point and held it the rest of the way. Soderberg Memorial Championship is Saturday at Dodge City

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – Another rousing season of championship points chase action is nearly in the books at the state-of-the-art 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval in southwest Kan­sas. After kicking off the 2019 chase in early April, the point season comes to a conclusion with Satur­day night’s seventh Annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event.  The Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars will square off with the United Rebel Sprint Se­ries for the final time of the year with the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks finishing off the 2019 point chases as well.  Saturday night’s racing action is set to get underway at 7:30 p.m.  Zach Blurton is among the reigning Soderberg Memorial Championship event winners after best­ing last year’s crop of DCRP vs. URSS competitors with Brendon Gemmill, Dakota Sproul, Chris Oliver and Tathan Burkhart also securing championship night wins. Elliott completes drive to checkers at Dodge City’s SportMod Mayhem

(Aug. 24) – Robert Elliott became the fifth different winner of Dodge City Race­way’s IMCA SportMod Mayhem event by racing to victory lane in Saturday night’s 30-lap feature. Elliott pocketed $1,000 by winning the sixth annual event after taking command at midway and holding off Dakota Sproul and Blaine Walt.  Race Elliott and Ryan Kirchoff led the way to the initial green flag. Robert Elliott worked his way forward from seventh with Walt bolting from fourth to take the lead away from Race Elliott on the second lap. The Aug. 24 card is headlined by the popular sixth annual IMCA SportMod Mayhem event with the IMCA SportMods battling it out for a $1,000 winner’s share. Sellard rules IMCA Modifieds at Dodge City

(June 29) – Clay Sellard needed less than two laps to race into the lead from eighth and led the rest of the way in the 20-lapper for IMCA Modified to become the fifth different winner in as many races Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park. Sellard stretched his lead out to a full half-lap by the time a late caution flew to set up a four-lap dash to the stripe the Mid-Season Championship Night show.  Sellard took off once again to se­cure the victory ahead of Tom Beavers, who made his way past Kevin Gray at the midway point to post runner-up honors.  Beavers finished just ahead of his son Kale, with William Nusser and Gray rounding out the top five.
