Setup changes pay I-37 dividends to Green

By J.M. Hallas  PLEASANTON, Texas (June 20) – After setup changes galore from the heat to the feature, Rick Green Parked his IMCA Modified in victory lane Saturday night at I-37 Speedway. Green powered around the outside off turn two to get out front early on, trailed by Ryan Doyon, Logan Dinsmore, Chris Carroll and Donald Banker. Past track champion Greg Dinsmore got to fifth before a caution. On the restart Carroll began pressuring Logan Dinsmore for third. Green got away following the next restart while Logan Dinsmore was looking for a way past Doyon for second. A quick yellow on lap 12 set up a single file restart to the finish. As Green and Doyon cleared the way, Logan Dinsmore and Carroll began a five-lap, wheel-to-wheel, battle for third. Carroll, using the bottom, was finally able to get the spot. Up front, Green was holding a good margin on Doyon going on to take the checkers. “We threw everything at it from the heat to the feature,” said Green. “I worked on it the [Read More]

Carroll uses traffic in I-37 win

By J.M. Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (June 6) – The two-week break in racing at I-37 Speedway proved a blessing Saturday night for Chris Carroll, whose IMCA Modified had sustained significant damage in the last outing.  Carroll started in row four and caught leader Rick Green in traffic to get by. In the latter stages, Carroll had to fend off rookie Logan Dinsmore, fresh off his high school graduation.   “This was Rick’s race. He clearly had the better car tonight. Everything just fell my way,” Carroll said. “I was watching Rick, he was gone. It’s easier being in second place sometimes when you get to traffic.” Jamie Campbell ended in second and Ryan Doyon was third.

By J.M. Hallas  PLEASANTON, Texas (March 7) – Chris Carroll took home the $1,000 win in the IMCA Modified 20-lapper, getting the best of some stiff competition and putting his name on the Fast Shafts all-Star Invitational ballot Saturday at I-37 Speedway.  The opening night checkers came ahead of Cody Tidwell and Nebraska visitor Chad Andersen. Carroll made his drive from the third row, running down Andersen for the lead with the two side by side on lap eight and Carroll getting the top spot a lap later. Tidwell moved into second just after midway while Jared Maupin caught Dillon Tindall for fourth.  While Carroll inched ahead, Andersen pressured Tidwell for second and Rick Green and Tindall scrapped for fifth. Carroll had a five-car length advantage on Tidwell at the white flag and motored to the win.  “I watched Chad race a little bit and we raced with him last year. He’s a pretty good guy and definitely gave me room,” Carroll said. “Once I got under him I got tight too and pushed both [Read More]

Carroll collects I-37 feature win

By J.M. Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (Aug. 24) – Chris Carroll looked like he was on his way to an easy victory in Saturday’s IMCA Modified main event at I-37 Speedway, until a mid-race caution flew.  Carroll then had to fend off Dillon Tindall and a last lap challenge from former champion Greg Dinsmore to secure that win. A spun car on lap 13 brought out the yellow that erased Carroll’s lead. Greg Dinsmore and Dillon Tindall stayed wheel-to-wheel for second on the restart with Jason Borlace, Donald Banker and Anthony Gordon three-wide for fifth.                                                                                                                         Banker took the spot and then passed Campbell for fourth. Green grabs Modified gold at I-37

By J.M. Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (Aug. 10) – Rick Green picked another IMCA Modified win, coming from eighth starting Saturday at I-37 Speedway. After a couple rocky tries at starts, Green powered his way to the front on lap three, held off Dillon Tindall through the early stages and then pulled away the final half to secure the victory. “It’s a long way when you have to start back in the fourth row,” said Green. “It worked out pretty good. Once Dillon showed me the line the second time, I knew there must be something up there. That’s when I went up to the high side and the car was excellent.” “I was kind of a sitting duck running out front. Once someone shows you the nose you think if you should be there, too,” he added. “I was still beating him on the bottom but once I moved up top the car was so much faster. That’s when I was able to get away from him.” Tindall ended in second and Anthony Gordon was [Read More]

Morris wins again at I-37 By J.M. Hallas

PLEASANTON, Texas (May 18) – After earning his first-ever IMCA Modified feature win early last month, Chris Morris returned to the scene and picked up I-37 Speedway win number two, his third of the season, Saturday night.  Morris was able to move up quickly and get early leaders Landon Bednarz and Jamie Campbell then motor away for the win.  Morris went around Bednarz on the high side then ducked under Campbell to snag the top spot on lap four. After a late caution, he pulled away as Rick Green and P.J. Egbert ran side-by-side second. This left Morris uncontested at the checkers while Green edged out Egbert for second.  “I knew it was going to be tough,” said Morris. “There’s quite a few good guys here. I feel like I had to work a little more for that one than the first one. It makes it all that much sweeter.”  “Seeing P.J. (Egbert) roll in puts a little pressure on. We ran against him at Heart O’ Texas (in Waco) last night and he beat [Read More]

Morris is magnificent in IMCA Modified feature win at I-37

By J.M. Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (April 6) – Everyone loves a first-time winner and when that person overcomes a physical challenge, even his competitors show their respect.  Using only hand controls, Chris Morris dominated the IMCA Modified 20-lapper Saturday at I-37 Speedway and grabbed the victory much to the excitement of the crowd. There was hardly a dry eye in the place.  Morris, who started ninth, saw the bottom open up on green and quickly moved up behind leader Jamie Campbell, Bill Pittaway, and defending track champ Rick Green. He picked off third from Green then got by Pittaway for second. Using the bottom, Morris pulled alongside Campbell on lap three and had the top spot on lap four, bringing Green along to second. From there, he began to stretch out his advantage.  Cody Leonard, who denied Morris his first-ever win in the season opener, was on the charge moving up to fourth. Stretching out his lead to a full straightaway, Morris only had slower traffic to contend with. Even that didn’t deter him as [Read More]

Swenson slides ahead for I-37 feature win

By J.M. Hallas  PLEASANTON, Texas (March 23) – A back-and-forth battle finally went Chris Swenson’s way Saturday at I-37 Speedway. Swenson, Cody Leonard and Nebraska’s Chad Andersen had a good three-car battle going for the top spot in the 20-lap IMCA Modified Dirt Kings main event. A caution set up a slide job duel between Swenson and Anderson as they swapped the lead for the final five laps before Swenson edged Andersen at the line to score the $1,000 win and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth.  “That was crazy,” said Swenson. “Slide job city, really. We just kept going back and forth, back and forth. He’d slide me, I’d slide him. It was just who was the last to give one as the checkered flag flew.”  “I was a little leery. I’m kind of old school back before we did slide jobs. It’s one of those things that you really have to trust the guy. It puts on a great show, but it is kind of scary,” he continued. “You’re just waiting the guy [Read More]

Green takes I-37 Modified checkers

By J.M. Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (July 28) – Rick Green took home the top money in Saturday’s IMCA Modified feature at I-37 Speedway, but it wasn’t easy after midway.   Green had jumped out to an early lead from the eighth starting spot and put some distance on Jeremy Davenport, Cody Tidwell, Jake Rollins and Greg Dinsmore. Dinsmore advanced to second but was half a straightaway back until caution flew on lap 13. The restart saw Dinsmore and Tidwell on Green’s bumper, but as the two fought for second Green inched ahead. Dinsmore’s run to the front ended with brake problems, leaving Tidwell to take up the charge on a restart. Green got a couple car lengths on Tidwell and Carroll with Flanagan and Cody Leonard side-by-side for fourth.   Tidwell gave Green a look on the final lap, but Green held him off for his first I-37 victory in several years.
