Morris is magnificent in IMCA Modified feature win at I-37

By J.M. Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (April 6) – Everyone loves a first-time winner and when that person overcomes a physical challenge, even his competitors show their respect. Using only hand controls, Chris Morris dominated the IMCA Modified 20-lapper Saturday at I-37 Speedway and grabbed the victory much to the excitement of the crowd. There was hardly a dry eye in the place. Morris, who started ninth, saw the bottom open up on green and quickly moved up behind leader Jamie Campbell, Bill Pittaway, and defending track champ Rick Green. He picked off third from Green then got by Pittaway for second. Using the bottom, Morris pulled alongside Campbell on lap three and had the top spot on lap four, bringing Green along to second. Swenson slides ahead for I-37 feature win

By J.M. Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (March 23) – A back-and-forth battle finally went Chris Swenson’s way Saturday at I-37 Speedway. Swenson, Cody Leonard and Nebraska’s Chad Andersen had a good three-car battle going for the top spot in the 20-lap IMCA Modified Dirt Kings main event. A caution set up a slide job duel between Swenson and Anderson as they swapped the lead for the final five laps before Swenson edged Andersen at the line to score the $1,000 win and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth. “That was crazy,” said Swenson. “Slide job city, really. We just kept going back and forth, back and forth. He’d slide me, I’d slide him. It was just who was the last to give one as the checkered flag flew.” “I was a little leery. Green takes I-37 Modified checkers

By J.M. Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (July 28) – Rick Green took home the top money in Saturday’s IMCA Modified feature at I-37 Speedway, but it wasn’t easy after midway. Green had jumped out to an early lead from the eighth starting spot and put some distance on Jeremy Davenport, Cody Tidwell, Jake Rollins and Greg Dinsmore. Dinsmore advanced to second but was half a straightaway back until caution flew on lap 13. The restart saw Dinsmore and Tidwell on Green’s bumper, but as the two fought for second Green inched ahead. Dinsmore’s run to the front ended with brake problems, leaving Tidwell to take up the charge on a restart. Green got a couple car lengths on Tidwell and Carroll with Flanagan and Cody Leonard side-by-side for fourth. Tidwell gave Green a look on the final lap, but Green held him off for his first I-37 victory in several years.

Dinsmore returns to victory lane at I-37

Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (June 2) – Returning after several weeks off, Greg Dinsmore found himself in a familiar place, victory lane, following the Saturday IMCA Modified main event at I-37 Speedway. Leading every lap but the first one, Dinsmore got by early beader Bill Pittaway and then held off Cody Tidwell on restarts to secure the win “Setting the car up for dry slick was key tonight,” explained Dinsmore. “It was a patience game and hit your marks. Once you find a line that’s fast, feel the car dig pretty good, just keep hitting those marks.” Chris Morris rounded out the top three.

I-37 checkers fly for Carroll

By J.M. Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (May 19) – After some early season bad luck, Chris Carroll parked his IMCA Modified in the winner’s circle Saturday at I-37 Speedway. Thanks to his wife, son and a couple grand in repairs, Carroll got by point leader Rick Green for the lead. Talon Minten was able to show him the nose after a late restart but Carroll was able to hold him off. “It’s my wife and son supporting me, first off,” commented Carroll. “Colin put the car together and he made it come off the turns. It rotated through the middle real good. Rick (Green) slipped up a little bit and let me go.” “My son put the car back together after the crash earlier this year. There was about $2,000 in damage,” he continued. “We basically torn the right front off and bent the bird cages, tires and wheels. Sunday win at I-37 goes to Minten

By J.M. Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (April 22) – Talon Minten outlasted the field to take home Sunday’s IMCA Modified main event at I-37 Speedway. Minten got the lead from early point man Chris Morris, who drives with only hand controls, then outpaced the remaining field for the win. “We had a good car,” said Minten. “With the wrecks and cautions I’m glad I started up front and stayed clear of it all. The track wasn’t too bad for our feature, I felt like the top line was dominant so whoever got up there first would likely stay out front.” Dillon Tindall was second and Morris ended his night in third. The scheduled Saturday show at Pleasanton was rescheduled because of inclement weather and wet pit conditions.

Long tow to I-37 pays off for Andersen

Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (April 7) – It wasn’t the trip he had planned, but Chad Andersen of Fort Calhoun, Neb., made the 13-hour drive pay off with a win in the IMCA Modified feature Saturday at I-37 Speedway. Starting toward the back with no point average, Andersen hung out letting the field sort itself, then began his march to the front. Andersen caught Rick Green, Jamie Campbell and Dillon Tindall near halfway making a four-car fight for the lead. Andersen grabbed the point on lap 13, then survived a couple late restarts to pick up the victory. “The win made the long trip worth it. We had intended to go to a two-day show in Iowa and took vacation time. That got canceled, everything else around us got canceled and the closest IMCA stuff was here in Texas,” Andersen said. “After our original plan, Waco and Kennedale rained out, we looked for another IMCA track and three hours south, here we are.
