Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour gets top billing at Kossuth County Fair

ALGONA, Iowa – The Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour returns to Kossuth County Speedway for top billing at the Thursday, Aug. 1 county fair show.  Traveling IMCA Modifieds run for $1,500 to win, plus a 2020 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth.  IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods all run for $1,000 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts complete the program at Algona. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and E3 Spark Plus Iowa State points will be awarded. Track points are also at stake for the Stock, Hobby, SportMod and Sport Compact divisions.  Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and drivers should use the south entrance. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults and free for ages 14 and under. Meyer, Shryock get wins, top checks at Kossuth County’s Salute to Veterans show

By Greg Grabianowski  ALGONA, Iowa (July 18) – On a night that Kossuth County Speedway in Algona saluted our country’s veterans, Nick Meyer and Kelly Shryock came home with big paydays as each driver paced $2,000 to win IMCA features.  The winner at Algona and at Hancock County Speedway the previous weekend, Meyer raced to his third straight IMCA Modified victory while putting his name of the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. D.J. Shannon had taken advantage of his pole start in the Beck Seeds $2,000 to win event and led early. Meyer took over the top spot after midway and held on to win for the second straight week. Shryock had a solid run in his no. 3 rig to finish second with Shannon taking third as Todd Shute was fourth and Jeff Feaster was fifth. Jones, Fett are grand winners at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 11) – They did it in different fashion, but both had $1,000 paydays as Devin Jones and Colby Fett won features at the Kossuth County Speedway Thursday night. Jones led almost the whole way in the in the Bayer Crop Science Bumble Bee Nationals Mach-1 Sport Compact main event while Fett only led two laps, but they were the most important laps to take the resched­uled Wyffels Hybrids special for Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. A season-high car count of 100 was on hand, including 25 SportMods and 21 Sport Compacts. After a complete restart in the 4-cylinder event, Jones grabbed the early lead and held that advantage most of the race. With five laps to go, Nate Coopman took over as the new leader.  Jones stayed right with Coopman and came across the finish line for the double checkered flags less than a car length ahead. Schultze scores Kossuth County IMCA Modified honors

By Greg Grabianowski  ALGONA, Iowa (June 20) – Ben Schultze passed Rob Hughes with two laps to go to capture the IMCA Modified feature win Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway.  Schultze held the lead at the end of the first lap of the feature that went green, white, checkered before Hughes took over the top spot on lap three.  Hughes drifted a little high with two laps to go coming out of the second turn as Schultze took advantage of the little bobble to slide past the leader and went onto his first victory of the season at the track.  The Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods also went caution-free as Matt Looft was the early leader of the race. Nielsen thunders to rich Hobby checkers at Algona

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 13) – Cody Nielsen made like lightning in winning Thursday’s Thunder­dome IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock Shootout at Kossuth County Speedway. The victory paid $1,000 and came ahead of defending race winner Dylan Nelson.  Josh Sidles and Jamie Weishaar brought the feature field to the flag stand as Sidles took the ini­tial lead.  Cautions came out on laps two and eight to bunch the field back up; Nielsen grabbed the lead at halfway and went on to his second feature win of the season at Algona.  Keeran Sampson, national points leader Leah Wroten and Josh Sidles completed the top five. Shryock, DeVries are repeat winners at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 6) – Kelly Shryock and Kaytee DeVries both won for the for the second time this season at Kossuth County Speedway, in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and Mach-1 Sport Compact divisions, on June 6. Shryock started on the outside of the fourth row as Derek Green was the early leader in the Stock car feature. Cautions on the eighth and 10th laps brought the 17-car field back together as Shryock slowly reeled in Green. Shryock passed Green with two laps to go to park his no. 3 car in the winner’s circle for the second straight week at Algona. DeVries had the early lead before an early incident that brought out the yellow flag and gave Megan Sandvig the front spot.  DeVries battled back to the front to regain the lead and held off Jade Lange for the win. Jacob Bleess was the IMCA Modified winner and 10th starting Leah Wroten topped the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main. Colby Fett was first to the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod checkers.

Night number three at Kossuth County draws 93 IMCA entries

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (May 23) – A season-high 93 IMCA entries visited the oval on night number three of rac­ing this season at Kossuth County Speedway. Jake O’Neil came from back in the pack to win the IMCA Modified feature after early runs at the front by Aaron Benson and then Kelly Shryock. O’Neil took the lead with five laps to go and never looked back. Jeremy Mills was the runner-up with Shryock taking third.  Jeramie Faber was the early leader in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature before Alec Fett grabbed the lead after a caution on the third lap. Shryock, Mills top Modified features at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski  ALGONA, Iowa (May 16) – Night number two of the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season at Kossuth County Speedway saw Kelly Shryock and Jeremy Mills win IMCA Modified features. Shryock came from the outside of the second row to earn the victory in the scheduled feature as pole sit­ter Austin Wolf was the runner-up. Winner-of the event rained out and made up from the previous week, Mills rounded out the top five in the scheduled race. Two features were on tap for the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods as well, with Doug Smith winning the scheduled race and Matt Looft the make-up. Also ending their nights in victory lane were Chad Palmer, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars; Bryce Sommerfeld, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks; and Oliver Monson, Mach-1 Sport Compacts.

Zevenbergen makes like lightning at Thunderdome special 

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 9) – Elijah Zevenbergen was fast as lightning in winning the Thunderdome feature for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Kossuth County Speedway. Zevenbergen and Derek Green both drew front row spots and chose to start at the back of the field for the $1,000 challenge if either could win the feature. Kevin Opheim jumped out to the early lead with a caution coming out on lap five. David Smith wrestled the lead away off the restart as Green moved into the top four spots only to see a pair of flat tires end his night. Zevenbergen, who was involved in a spinout on lap five and went to the back of the field again, slowly weaved his way through traffic to move into a battle for the lead with Smith and Opheim. Beckendorf outruns IMCA Modified foes at Kossuth County’s Gary Harken Memorial 

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 4) – The rest of the IMCA Modified field couldn’t catch Brandon Beckendorf, who raced to one of four $1,000 paydays at Kossuth County Speedway’s Gary Harken Memorial. Jesse Hoeft was the early leader before Beckendorf took over the top spot on the third lap. The Danube, Minn., driver did not give up that spot once out in clean air as just a single yellow, just before midway of the 20-lap feature slowed his trip into victory lane ahead of fast closing Tad Reutzel. The win put Beckendorf of the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Hard charger Jeremy went from 13th starting to third.
