Aikey takes two wins at Marshalltown’s DeFrance/Davis Memorial

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 11) – Jeff Aikey put on quite the show at Marshalltown Speedway’s Dale DeFrance/Bill Davis Sr. Memorial, winning IMCA Modified and IMCA Late Model features to bring the curtain down on the Thursday show. The finale was 44 laps of Late Model racing, in honor of the late DeFrance’s car number. Fittingly, his son Darrel drew the pole start, then led until Brian Harris nosed under him to take over at lap five. Harris soon had Richie Gustin to contend with, and after running side-by-side, and a couple of slide jobs, Gustin made it stick and took over the lead. The race was far from over however, as a pair of no. 77 cars came calling. Visiting York, Neb. racer, Cory Dumpert moved from 14th starting to run second and Aikey had moved from 19th starting to third. Dallon Murty earns first career IMCA Stock Car win

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 5) – Friday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature at Marshalltown Speedway was one for the record books as 14-year-old Dallon Murty, son of the “Chelsea Charger” Damon Murty, led all 18 laps to score his first career win in the division. Murty set his ride to the top of the track much like his dad, and finished well ahead of second place Steve Meyer. Shawn Ritter finished in third place, Todd Reitzler was fourth, and Dave Atcher completed the top five. Todd Cooney had to fend off Jeremiah Hurst most of the 20-lap IMCA Late Model feature in order to capture his second feature of the season. Cooney came from eighth starting spot to take the win. Hurst, who started ninth, finished as the runner-up. Leah Wroten paid her second visit to victory lane in winning the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main event. Storjohann motors to Marshalltown victory

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 7) – Travis Storjohann put his no. 12R machine across the finish line first in scoring the victory in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod 18-lap event Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. He finished just ahead of eighth starting Jake McBirnie. Joel Rust set his hot rod on the top of the track and sailed to the win in the IMCA Modified 20-lapper. Tim Ward finished in the runner up spot, Cody Laney was a hard charger, coming from the 17th starting spot, to finish in third. Ethan Braaksma made his debut in the division, moving up from the SportMods, and took fourth after starting 12th. Randy Havlik charged through the field from starting 18th and was fifth. Gustin cashes in at Marshalltown with Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights win

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 4) – The driver who’s won the most Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour features added to his total Tuesday evening at Marshalltown Speedway. Richie Gustin topped the $2,000 to win main event for IMCA Modifieds, taking the lead on lap eight and pulling away from Jordan Grabouski to capture the opening night checkers. Gustin was already on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. The victory was his tour career ninth and third at Marshalltown. Tim Ward had led the stout field as the race went green, with Gustin tucking in behind to run in second. Gustin took several peeks in the corners, tried an unsuccessful slide at lap seven, then managed the pass on the front stretch at lap eight to take command. Carter masters Marshalltown SportMods in photo finish

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 31) – Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods vied for a $500 top prize Friday at Marshalltown Speedway and Brayton Carter took home the top check in a photo finish. Thirty-one cars battled in an 18-lap main event that saw both Carter and runner-up Cory Rose come from the ninth row. The final laps turned out to be a barnburner with Johnathon Logue, Rose and Carter battling it out in an epic duel. All three drivers would hold momentary leads through those final circuits, but as they crossed the finish line, the win went to Carter in a photo finish. Rose was second by inches and Logue was a close third. Fourth went to Carter VanDenBerg and Tyler Inman was fifth after starting 15th. Marshalltown Speedway got back to racing after having its last four scheduled events scrapped by the weather. Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour opener moves to Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – With hopes that the third time will be a charm, opening night for the Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour moves to Marshalltown Speedway. Traveling IMCA Modifieds race for $2,000 to win their Tuesday, June 4 main event. A Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth is at stake, as are IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Side Biter Chassis North Central Region, E3 Spark Plugs State and special series points. Also on the midweek program are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods, chasing $500 top checks, and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks in a $300 to win feature. Olson scores first Marshalltown win

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 3) – Kyle Olson made his first visit to Marshalltown Speedway’s victory lane on Cliff Chambers Memorial Friday night. The Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods ran 18 laps and in the end it was Olson weathering the yellow flags to take home the win. Olson started sixth but had command of the race by the time lap three was scored. From there on he remained as captain of the ship, capturing his first win ever at the speedway. Brayton Carter had a good showing as he finished as the runner-up after starting back in 16th. The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main event went flag to flag with David Rieks leading all but that opening lap on his way to victory. Thornton doubles up at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 26) – Ricky Thornton Jr. bested both the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car features Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Tony Hofbauer took the lead in the Modified main and kept hold of it until Joel Rust ran him down at halfway. Rust was looking strong but soon had Tim Ward and then Thornton bearing down on him. Thornton slipped into second and set his sights on the leader. He then made a slide job work with four laps left in the contest to nab the lead. Thornton sailed home to the win, Rust took second and Ward was third. Jarred Daggett led the Stock Car troops in the opening laps only to have Jeff Mueller dig his way to the lead on the bottom at lap three. Ward rewarded with opening night win at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 19) – Tim Ward saw his efforts rewarded with the opening night IMCA Modified feature win Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Troy Cordes led the troops when lap one was scored, with Jimmy Gustin hot on his tail and Ward closing the gap quickly as well. Ward made his way into the lead at lap six, kept it and pulled away in the closing laps to take the comfortable win. Gustin followed from a distance in second, and Cayden Carter came from starting 10th to score third place honors. Steve Meyer got the lead back from Jeff Mueller, then held off Ricky Thornton Jr. for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers. Marshalltown postpones Bill Davis Memorial

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Marshalltown Speedway’s inaugural Bill Davis Memorial, scheduled for tonight (Thursday) at the famed High Banks has been postponed to July 11 during the Central Iowa Fair. The IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season opener will be pushed back a week to Friday, April 19. “Due to cold temperatures and the amount of rain we have received, it will make it impossible to get the track ready,” explained promoter Toby Kruse. “It’s always hard to cancel an event but we want to make sure our fans and racers have the best experience when they come to Marshalltown.” On the card next week at IMCA’s longest sanctioned track will be IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods.
