Marshalltown recognizes 2020 champions on opening night for 2021 points

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 23) – Marshalltown Speedway held its first 2021 track points racing on Friday, presented by Iowa Air Barrier, and Sleeping Angels Fundraiser Night. It was also Driver Appreciation Night where last year’s track champions were recognized on the front stretch before racing action began. Those track champions were Tom Berry in the IMCA Modifieds, who went on to also be IMCA national champion of the division. IMCA Sunoco Stock Car track champion was Dallon Murty, the Karl Kustoms Northern Northern SportMod track title went to Johnathon Logue and the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock champion was Solomon Bennett. Joel Huggins picked up where he left off last week, taking home the win in the IMCA STARS Mod Lite feature. Huggins led the entire 15 laps on his way to victory. King of the Highbanks rained out

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Rain and the resulting wet track conditions are officially winners of The King of the Highbanks special for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Marshalltown Speedway. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and IMCA STARS Mod Lites join the Stocks on the April 16 card at Marshalltown. Driver Appreciation Night has been moved to April 23.

It’s Carter in a breeze in IMCA Modified main event at Marshalltown Frostbuster

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 2) – Cayden Carter collected a second IMCA Modified win in as many Frostbuster starts on a brisk Friday evening at Marshalltown Speedway. One hundred and ninety-four cars, 53 Modifieds among them, saw action on the Highbanks. The 25-lap main event ran green after a caution on the initial start and Carter led all but the first circuits, leading Kyle Brown into and through lapped traffic before taking the $1,000 checkers. “The draw helped a lot and we had a good, smooth track to run on,” said Carter, also the Frostbuster winner at Stuart and already a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational candidate. “We had a good car again tonight. IMCA Stock Cars chase $5,000 King of the Highbanks check at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – The fabled highbanks of Marshalltown Speedway are the setting for the $5,000 to win King of the Highbanks special for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars Thursday and Friday, April 8 and 9. Stock Cars will run two sets of heats on Thursday with the top 10 in points locked into Friday’s main event. Entry fee for the weekend is $100. IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifiers with a $20 entry fee each night. Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks both race for $500 each night and IMCA Stars Mod Lites complete the Friday card. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 7:15 p.m. both nights. Grandstand admission on Thursday is $15 for adults and $12 for seniors, and $20 for adults and $15 for seniors on Friday. Too cold, too windy at Indee: Next Frostbuster is Friday at Marshalltown

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – Cold and wind get the blame for cancellation of Thursday’s Frostbuster at Independence Motor Speedway. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods now see their next Frostbuster action Friday, April 2 at Marshalltown Speedway. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. The draw closes at 6:15 p.m. with hot laps at 7 p.m. and racing to follow. Frostbusters follow Saturday at Boone Speedway and Sunday at Benton County Speedway.

Benton County Frostbuster rescheduled to Sunday, Stuart opens tonight

VINTON, Iowa – Wednesday’s scheduled IMCA Frostbuster at Benton County Speedway has been rescheduled to Sunday, April 4. Track officials made that announcement after determining they could not get the dirt oval at Vinton race-ready for the number of cars expected to compete on the original date. Along with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods, Mach-1 Sport Compacts will be on the Sunday card. Racing starts at 5 p.m. and there will be Easter eggs for the kids. More information about the Benton County Frostbuster is to be announced. Frostbuster Week starts tonight (Tuesday) at Stuart Speedway. Aikey, Carter cash in with IMCA Modified wins at World Nationals

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 18-19) – Jeff Aikey and Cayden Carter were $2,000 IMCA Modified feature winners at Marshalltown Speedway’s 14th annual World Nationals. Aikey made it back-to-back trips to victory lane, following his Thursday night Dale DeFrance Memorial IMCA Late Model victory in the 500th and final Summer Series event. Carter joined Aikey on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot with the Saturday checkers. Aikey drew the pole for Friday’s 25-lap feature and led the entire race to take the win. Carter and Ethan Dotson challenged Aikey several times, but he fended them off. Carter finished second and Dotson took third, followed by Todd Shute and 18th place starter Tim Ward was fifth. J.D. Auringer paced the opening laps on Saturday but Carter quickly moved from his fifth starting position and into the lead. IMCA Summer Series standouts DeFrance, Aikey are celebrated at 500th, final event at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 17) – The two drivers synonymous with IMCA’s Summer Series for Late Models were honored before and at the end of Marshalltown Speedway’s Dale DeFrance Memorial. Darrel DeFrance, Dale’s son, was recognized for his perfect attendance through the series’ 500th and final event. Jeff Aikey won that final feature, leading all but the first three of 44 laps to win for the series-best 71st time. One of, if not the most respected drivers in division history, the Ironman DeFrance received a custom door panel, a stone plaque engraved with pictures of his cars from different eras, and a die cast replica of his father’s race car during pre-race ceremonies. A standing ovation from his hometown fans followed congratulations from IMCA officials and promoter Toby Kruse. “I raced every race I could, trying to win every race I could,” DeFrance said of his streak. MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Two of the biggest special events in Central Iowa will be held back-to-back at Marshalltown Speedway with the Dale DeFrance Memorial on Sept. 17 and World Nationals Sept. 18 and 19. Five IMCA divisions are on the card for the rescheduled DeFrance Memorial. IMCA Sunoco Late Models run for $2,619 to win that evening in their 500th and final Summer Series event while top prize for IMCA Modifieds is $1,125 in a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying feature. MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Drivers in five IMCA divisions battle it out on the High Banks of Marshalltown Speedway, at the Sept. 4 Showdown at MoTown. IMCA Modifieds chase a $1,000 top check in their 2021 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both race for $500 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts – the 4-cylinder class is new to the card – both for $300 to win.
